The Dedham School of Music cordially invites you (and your friends!) to join us for a growing series of Acoustic Jams and musical events. We rent "The Classroom" at the Mother Brook Arts and Community Center (the old Avery School), 123 High Street, Dedham Massachusetts and use our space to play, promote and enjoy music in all its forms. Check back for additional events . . . we are programming more events growing month by month!!!
Join us 7:00 - 9:00 pm for our monthly "4th Sunday Acoustic Freestyle Jam." This FREESTYLE Jam is for folks who like a wide music palette (rock, jazz, swing, etc.) and who enjoy playing flute, clarinet, brass and wind instruments. The "4th Sundays" Jam is deliberately and unabashedly freestyle: from the Beatles and the Boswell Sisters to The Box Tops, Dan Hicks, gospel and acapella, the loose structure of the "4th Sundays Acoustic Freestyle Jam" is designed for singing and playing music in all its forms.
For those who love Bluegrass music we have two possibilities for you.
The first is "Really Strictly Bluegrass" held the 3rd Friday of every month. Suitable for intermediate or advanced Bluegrass jammers, this Jam welcomes those playing traditional stringed Bluegrass acoustic instruments like mandolin, guitar, banjo and fiddle. We do traditional Bluegrass songs to start our weekend.
For novice players or those who want to start learning Bluegrass we offer a Bluegrass SLOW JAM the third Tuesday of every month from 7:30 - 9:00 pm. Taught by longtime Bluegrass performer George Chapman, we sloooowly play through simple traditional Bluegrass songs, offering guidance and encouragement as we go. We make this the safest possible place to get comfortable playing with others. Players of all levels are welcome and we take special care to provide guidance for beginners and casual musicians.
All our Jams are free . . . we "pass the hat" to help cover our rent and expenses.
