Showcase at Miller's Grille DownUnder (Lafayette)

I spoke with Rich, the owner today -- and it's "a go" to host the first "Showcase" event NEXT Wed., 2/13, from 6:30-10:30 p.m.  This is the first time organizing something like this. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions!  (Although, as Jeff mentioned, Cannon Mine has its' open mic on Wed. nights, I think this will be something different enough and for "our meetup" members and Miller's Grille patrons, so I think it will bring in a bit different group of folks.)

I am going to announce THIS Showcase as TWO different meetups:  one for the performers--which will have 9 slots available (including me, as the announcer--but I won't be playing) and the second meetup will be for an "audience" of our meetup members to come out and watch the show  -- with an unlimited number of RSVPs available for that one, of course.

I wish there was an EASY way to share a signup sheet on this facility, but perhaps I will just email the 8 people after I've gotten all the RSVP from the performers -- and have you all pick a preferred slot to play ahead of time. (We may not need to do this, but I thought it would be helpful and worth a try).

SOOOO, go ahead and sign up... the first 8 people to sign up on THIS meetup will get to play the First Inaugural Showcase Event!  Everyone will get to play a 30-minute set, and you can do a solo performance or have others playing with you during your slot. AND if you are able to run the sound equipment, please let me know.

    Yes, it was a GREAT night! ~ with so many incredible performers and different styles. Thanks to all for coming, and a BIG THANKS to Ed for running sound and bringing all the mics and equipment. I'll be posting the next one in a couple days ~ planning to try to do this every two weeks. And those that were on the waitlist before will get first dibs on the next one.

    So, just wondering - do we need to bring our own sound? I have a Roland acoustic amp and 4 or 5 mic's. Also, it will be myself, my brother and a friend who will be performing this coming Wed night. Always more fun singing and playing with others. Thanks

    THanks all for jumping in to play at this event! I will send out an email to everyone who is signed up to play in the next 2-3 days, and try to figure out a schedule that fits everyone's needs as best as possible.
    If there are some in the group, like Perry, who only want to play 20 minutes or so of songs, then the next person after him can go a bit longer, or maybe I can have Darryl's group go right after him so their setup time can be used to fill in the shorter slot before them (prob. fairest to do it this way).

    Since Mark said he'd be up for doing sound. Maybe I could have him assigned to this for the first "Showcase", with your assistance, Ed?

    Thanks for setting this up Kathy, sounds like fun. I reserved a slot and will be bringing 3 others to perform a "Heartbreak Hayride" set. We will have an electric bass with small battery powered amp. All four of us sing, but we can get by with 3 mics. I can bring the mic stands and mics as needed. We also have 2 acousticish guitars. I can bring an acoustic amp with a small mixer if that would be easier than using the sound system for everything. We can set up in less than 5 min and reduce our 30min set accordingly. We would prefer either an early or late time slot, but will be happy with what works best for you. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you and other members on Wednesday.
