Song Circle for acoustic musicians and singer/songwriters 

Develop and share your skills, play/sing/jam with other musicians (all levels welcome!), make new friends, learn new songs. We play a lot of mostly cover tunes -- folk/rock music -- see list on the site under the "More"=> Files Tab. Anyone on our group can post tunes (chord/lyric sheets) here. There are a couple files showing songs we've done and ideas for other songs, called: AcousticMusicSongs, and a current list of chord/lyric charts for songs played in the weekly Saturday jam (Denise and Karel's -- see info below).

The usual format is to take turns going around the circle and individuals lead a song or songs (usually ones with fairly simple chord progressions) that the group plays and sings along with. A good way to start up with the group is to attend one of the weekly Saturday afternoon jams (2-5pm) that Denise and Karel (Dr. Z) lead at Folsom St. Coffee house in Boulder. All levels welcome to that group too -- Come and listen for starters and/or jump in and lead a song or two  :-)!

I acquired this group, and signed up to be the organizer about two years ago, because I didn't want to see it go away. I enjoy playing my mountain dulcimer and singing with others, jamming, sharing songs -- covers and personal tunes. We meet about once a month as a large group in homes (my house or others) or at Harmony Music House in Boulder on occasion. A co-organizer of this group offers beginning guitar classes at his home, and there is talk of starting a singer/song-writers group. There is also a regular open mic on Monday nights at Wanda's Cafe in Lyons--for those who would like to perform on stage, and get their "feet wet" in this way (a very supportive atmosphere, led by Jeremy Cline, a co-organizer).

Other members are welcome to host groups in their homes as well -- for song circles/jam sessions, groups with a particular focus: e.g. blues/improv, etc.  Any members who live in the Denver or surrounding areas are encouraged to host groups as well, if they would like - We have a LOT of members from all over now!  Just contact me if you would like to host a group, or have any questions about that -- email me directly at: Cathy.Kerry@colorado.edu, or you can post a "suggested meetup" yourself and once 3 people from the group (including YOU!) have signed up, it will be advertised to the whole group for people to signup.
