This concert is a tribute to one of the greatest maestros of Persian classical music and the soloists of tar, Jalil Shahnaz. He started to play Tar in 1949 in Isfahan, Iran.
Tar plays an important role in classical Persian music. It is a long-necked, waisted instrument, shared by many cultures and countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Georgia, Republic of Azerbaijan, and other areas near the Caucasus region. The word tār means "string" in Persian, though it might have the same meaning in languages influenced by Persian.
