Seems like this has been planned for along time and people are waiting for a reply, place, and set date... So Im going to make the initiative to change it.
This meet up is for people who have kayaks. There is no kayak rental located at this park. Hopefully, those who have kayaks will join and those who dont cld probably buy one, rent, or borrow one. Alexader Duessen Park is on Lake Houston and has relatively calm waters. I wish for alot of Active Houstonians to show and participate. I personally will take a fishing pole and troll :) if you have any questions please feel free to email me (:
heres alittle bit more on the park: http://www.hctx.net/comm_lee/PDeussen/
If my wife is free then we are in for sure. what day are you all planning on going??
What a great time! Would love to go kayaking!
so when are we going? ;)
I was looking at going the third Saturday in October (the 16th). Anyone else want to meet that day?
I never have gone kayaking. I would like to try. I rented 4 Tandem-Kayak which are available from Sept to mid of November. My friends and I will join you if you're doing it during Sept to Nov this year.
I'm a little confused about this event! Looks like it was planned last year???
Hi Nadia, it was planned last year. But I don't know if they made it. We can make it happen this year. Do you know any good place to kayak?
Hi Sarah! I am on a couple of Kayaking Meetups. There is Buffalo Bayou Shuttle, they have a Groupon deal now but it's only good on weekdays but I think if you are a member of their MeetUp you can get discounts. Here is the meetup site http://www.meetup.com/KayakingHouston/
and this is their regular website http://bayoushuttle.com/index.htm
. Besides the water being what it is, it's a pretty nice paddle with downtown Houston views.
Sorry, I ran out of space. Another group is pretty active but you usually need your own kayak, they do alot of camping along with it http://www.meetup.com/Houston-Kayaking/
.
My favorite trip is the San Marcos River and you can rent for $25 and there are a few small rapids. Have made several day trips here, I love it. Water is low right now though. Don't know if I would recommend it for first timers though http://spencercanoes.net/spencercanoes.html![]()

Hi Nadia, thanks for your info. I think we'll try downtown Houston. We have 5 kayaks, we're all new to kayak. Do you know where can we put in and take out our kayaks?
I second Sarah's question.
I've had my kayak for about a year but have not had it in TX...would like to know where people would suggest for flatwater boating.
@ Carlos...Thought you were going to plan a biking meetup dude!
artistboat.org has kayak trip in the Galveston Area! Who is interested
Looks like they're only June - early December from their website...
Went on the Seabrook Kayaking Groupon trip on my own, without the group. Was nice. I do warn, sign up in advance. Small outfit. They only had maybe 4-5 single kayaks and the rest tandems. But it was a good time & I'd do it again.
What's the status on this event? Don't see a confirm date or location.
if you want flat water kayaking, I launch off of San Luis Pass or if not in Lake Houston... I mostly do kayak fishing though :)
San Luis Pass is saltwater and Lake Houston freshwater...
lol I think this idea has been thought of since 2010... I have an extra kayak, if anyone wants to ride :) hit me up. Im free next Sunday, of course weather permitting....
I'll go next Sunday. I don't need Dave's extra - I have my own (12', sit-in, so flatwater stuff). Can we get a 3rd to join us?
I changed the date and time to Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 12:00 PM
I'll take the extra Kayak David, if it's still available.
Srry someone already call dibbs on the kayak Christian, buuuuut I'm going to text my brother in a min to let me borrow his kayak, if so, I'll keep you posted.
Yeah just elt me knowso I can arrange to rent one if needed.
Thanks!
Oh yeah, where are we going to meet, one of the boat ramps?
Hey Christian, my brother couldn't get his kayak :/ he left it at his in-laws house. Hey Wayne yeah, in that area, there's some parking spaces by the boat ramp. Well they also have a jet ski and kayak launching area, so that'll be better. Its next to the boat ramp.
so how strenuous is this? I take it not at all..just leisurely lake kayaking? but you never know:) just wondering so I can bring my pup! anyone else bringing their pup along?
No pup here. Have heard of people kayaking with a dog, but have never actually seen it myself (Sailboats and canoes I have). I have no issues with you having your dog. On a side note - not sure I'll make it. Will try, but it's a long way from my place to Lake Houston & I have Sunday morning commitments (church etc.). So if I'm not there at noon, assume I just couldn't make it.
I have always wanted to go kayaking. This sounds like fun.
