Do you want to be more active, but don’t know where to start? Do you want to walk, hike, ride a bike, or go camping, but don’t want to do it alone? Do you have a kayak, but don’t know where to take it? Do you like live music, wineries, and other fun activities that get you out of the house and Active? Then you’re in the right place!
This is an inclusive group for people of ALL activity levels! People who are just starting to walk or hike and people who are ready to take it up a notch. We love to camp and sit around a camp fire. We’re a group of kayakers who are always willing to share our knowledge with anyone who might be interested in the sport. We paddle both local flatwater lakes and Ozark rivers.
Being active isn’t just about exercising though. It’s about getting out there and meeting people, expanding your horizons, and feeding your soul. Ticking off the little things on your bucket list. Bucket lists don’t have to be about hiking the Inca trail or scaling Everest. For some people, it can be about attending an event at the Kauffman Center, taking a walk at the Arboretum when the spring flowers are blooming, watching the sail boat races at Lake Jacomo, or just taking time on a regular basis to get together with friends.
Join us in living each day to the fullest, trying new things, being adventurous, meeting new people, and having a blast!
See our Ideas Page for a list of proposed activities. Each time we do one, we will cross it off but leave it on the page for reference. We cannot be successful without members, ideas and hosts. Be open minded and offer up some of your own dreams! We will consider it all. Email an organizer with your idea and we’ll put it on the Ideas page.
And now for the serious stuff - information you need to know about participating in activities with this group...
Meetup.com's terms of service include liability waivers for both the platform, organizers, and their designees. If you have questions about liability, please re-read meetup.com’s terms of service. You agreed to it in order to use this site. In general, it says that if an organizer or any member places a event on the calendar and you get injured or suffer a loss at it, then the platform, organizers and designees assume no fault. Additionally, by joining this group, you agree to assume all risks associated with the activities you choose to participate in.
This is a group of people who like to do all kinds of indoor and outdoor activities. The Organizer (Liz) pays the fees to keep the group running on the meetup site, and there are assistant organizers and event hosts that plan and manage events, however there is no one in charge, per se that can force you to do something you're uncomfortable with. If someone tells you what to do and you feel it’s too risky, don’t do it. Use your own common sense and leave the event if you think it’s not suitable for you.
Organizers/hosts are not responsible for your decisions or safety. We are all here to have fun, with like-minded people. Some activities do have an inherent level of risk. But it is up to you to decide to join in, and take on any risk that there is - even if it’s just the risk of falling on your rear end while roller skating.
What are the rules?
Be safe, be responsible, be respectful. Honor your RSVPs. Seriously. Don't RSVP if you can't come. If you thought you could come and your plans change, then kindly change your RSVP to NO. Don't use our Meetups to try to sell stuff to other members. Don't turn the message boards into a way to air dirty laundry or personal gripes.
Bottom line though...we're here to have fun and meet people. Please join us as we endeavor to make the most of it.
