Update 8/18:

Folks, I have been to the Harpeth, and it is still pretty gross, and so I'm moving this yet again (hey, it wasn't called a Mystery Paddle for nothin') to the Piney River, where we will enjoy about 8 miles of wonderfully cool, clear water, and enjoy the swimming holes!

We will meet at the Shell station and caravan to the put in. From there we will set up a shuttle.

The land-owner requires a launch fee for using (and parking the shuttle car on) their land. Bring $3 - $5 in cash.

stuff to bring:

• boat/paddle/pfd

• sunscreen

• fluids

• lunch

• FUN!

•• bring a change of clothes for post-paddle food & drinks.

This was a REALLY nice paddle. I so enjoyed catching up with 2 old acquaintances and meeting 2 new ones. 6 paddlers seemed to be the perfect number. The water was just high enough and so beautiful. Our Mexican meal was the perfect ending. Thanks Mary for leading and coming to find me when I got lost on the shuttle.

Thanks Mary for organizing a lovely paddle on such a magical river. The deep pools of water were perfect for a dip and the rock formations spectacular. Great group to paddle with.

We had one of the most enjoyable Piney trips I've ever been on. Terrific group of fun, thoughtful people + perfect weather & water ... great times. Thanks for sharing the day, y'all.

Woo-hoo the Piney! (I am on the Harpeth any day.) Such a beautiful river and the water is WAY clearer than "my" river. I am going to get up early and eat breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Dickson if anyone wants to join me around 8:30 or so...

Mary thanks for leading this paddle! I am bringing my son who is a senior at MTSU and a pretty good paddler. He will help everyone with boat launching and retreiving!

I live on the Harpeth in Pegram and just came up from the river. It is greening out nicely...the carp tracks are already showing. It will be a beautiful paddle tomorrow.

Katherine, I went out there, also, and I'm afraid the temps are still to warm for me to want to bring a paddle there. Sorry to be such a river snob, but I hope you'll still join us.

Expect to do 8-11 if mostly flatwater with low current, 13-15 if it's moving fast.

Great, so changed to Sunday and I love the pictures of different rivers playing the mystery paddle.
What website do you use to check water levels and how do you know what is ideal?

I use the USGS gauges, wx forecasts, and prior experience.
