1234, harlem, NY
This is the first tour in the beginning of a series day walking tours highlighting a section of the most famous City in the World---New York. Yes Philadelphians, I said it but don’t hate and come along anyway.
For our virgin voyage we will be going to Harlem and the Upper East Side of NYC. Harlem remains one of New York's most diverse neighborhoods, with the area around West 125th Street boasting an especially vibrant mix of cultural institutions, shops and historic spots. Harlem is home to art, music, dance and history. We will be stopping by and visiting key venues such as the Studio Museum, Schomberg Center, Apollo Theater, Sugar Hill, and the National Black Theater. I will start you with a cheap and hidden gem of a breakfast place. The less you know now about this place the better. Once energized with food, we will start our tour with a quick stop at the Malcolm Shabazz open market in Harlem which is full of fabulous traditional African crafts, textiles and jewelry. Since exploring is often followed by hunger pangs, we will stop for a taste of Southern hospitality and stomach-and-spirit satisfying soul food at Red Rooster Harlem. Depending on how tired we are and our timing, we may end the day with a quick stop at a local night spot, such as Lenox Lounge for early evening cap before we start our journey back…..exhausted but exhilarated.
Details and such ---- We will be getting to the Big Apple by Mega Bus. Specifically the 8:00AM bus, that departs from 30th St Station and arrives in New York City at 10:15AM. We will be returning on the 8:40PM bus that gets back to Philadelphia at 10:55PM. Please purchase tickets early to confirm availability and the lowest possible price.
Update: I had to change the date because the tour guide is not available to do the tour. She wasvolunteering her time to give the tour. I did research online and there are tour guide companies that charge 25-35.00 per person. I apologize for canceling the event due to the tour guide telling me she's not available. Maybe we can still go to NYC for dinner and show.. Please leat me know your thoughts or suggestions about this meetup
