As of Friday morning 3/23/12, the weather forecast is dismal on Sunday. Showers and Thunderstorms. Wouldn't be very fun to see the cherry blossoms in the rain. (I'm disappointed.) :-(
Let's still get together for a group lunch!
Location:
UNION JACK'S COLUMBIA
10400 LITTLE PATUXENT PARKWAY
COLUMBIA, MD 21044

I enjoy this restaurant, great atmosphere, tasty food and drink. If you haven't been here before, it is outside the Columbia Mall across the parking lot on the JC Penney side.
MENU - http://www.unionjackscolumbia.com/menus.php
There might even be an opportunity to enjoy a pint and play a game of billiards if you so desire!
Please be on time, we'd like to order when most of the group has arrived and we don't want to be waiting for you. It makes things crazy for the restaurant if they have to take orders from people at different times as they arrive spread out over more than 15 minutes or so.
BRING CASH to pay for your meal. With a group of 25+, we cannot get separate checks. It is helpful if you can bring small bills to make paying your check easier.
Based on group response....if enough people are interested in a group lunch at an alternate location.........
Maybe.......Red Sky in Laurel or Union Jacks in Columbia, neither should be very crowded at 2:00 PM on a Sunday afternoon.
Comments/Suggestions?
What time will lunch at the new location be? I'll RSVP "yes" if it's 1:30 or 2:00; if earlier I may not make it in time after church.
So as of now it looks like the plan has changed to lunch. Has a definite location and time been decided. As long as it is still at 2 I am still interested.
Michelle:
If we have lunch in Columbia at 2:00pm, is it too late to go to the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC afterwards? Besides, how are we going to go to DC from Columbia with a large group of people? Take Metro or drive?
Morning update: Here's a forecast: Sunday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 66. North wind between 3 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Rather than stress about this, I'm cancelling the "Cherry Blossom" part of this event. We will not travel into DC. I will contact a restaurant in Columbia and make a reservation for lunch. Stay tuned.
The actual Cherry Blossom parade is on April 14th and the Southwest DC Waterfront Festival and Fireworks is on April 7th. I might plan something for this group around those events.
The trees will all be green by then, no more blossoms, I don't think they were expecting the trees to bloom this early either.
thank u Michelle for all of your coordination/planning! I look forwatd to other trips / events. Mania
Weather update: Sounds like Sunday will be all-day rain, not just a sprinkle or two.
I'd like to let the group decide...based on the number of changed RSVP's (or not), I'll either cancel this event or schedule an alternate event.
A YES RSVP means - "I'll show up for a group lunch at another restaurant in Laurel/Columbia"
Changing your RSVP to NO means - "I signed up because we were going into DC to see the cherry blossoms.....not available for lunch at an alternate location"
