I concur with Buzz. I thoroughly enjoyed the full length and breadth of Dostoyesvsky's descriptions. The idiosyncrasies were delightful and there was a wealth of imagery to unpack. Perhaps the group would be well served by an agenda of items to discuss (e.g. themes, characters, imagery, political/ social background etc). Conversation would flow more richly if members had read at least 25-50% of the set text before attending. Also, this would be equitable for those on the waiting list.

Although my work has kept me too busy for recreational reading and I didn't finish the book, for me Dostoevsky's characterisations were detailed and engaging (eg General Ivolgin disappearing for 30 minutes and then reappearing with his moustache dyed). The religious themes were also intriguing: Nastasia as a metaphor for Mary Magdalene, the Prince as a moral 'saviour' capable of influencing other people's conduct, etc. Luckily, in our group Gary had some Dostoevsky expertise to share, which I found enlightening and interesting; especially as related to the socio-political and to Dostoevsky's character and thoughts on his own work.

Five stars and I can't wait to finish it!

Book too long to finish. At times, rather boring due to the over-stretched descriptives, one tends to lose the plot. A good meeting though. Pleased to meet some interesting new members. SATISH

Good discussion on a book I found quite hard going!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
