Macro Shoot

Yep another one...A few members that couldn't make the last Macro shoot said they would like the chance to do it again. So lets all meet at the Adelaide Himeji Garden and see what we can come up with.

Some additional information:
The Adelaide-Himeji Garden contains features which are of profound religious significance to the Japanese people. It contains features designed to recall the beauty of nature.

The Garden blends two classic styles. The first is the ‘senzui’ (lake and mountain garden), where water and the imagination create images of vastness and grandeur. The second is the ‘kare senzui’ (dry garden), where rocks and sand evoke the presence of water, even the sea itself.

A tentative yes, I don't own a pacific macro lens and won't be able to afford one for awhile.

Good news David. I haven't had any problems with mine - bought for $55 and free postage ages ago. They seem to work best zoomed in at 100mm. But unfortunately they don't work properly with the Sigma telephoto lense with a macro switch (that still doesn't make it a bone fide macro lense). I have no idea why but that lense just won't lock onto them properly like the Canon lenses do so I'm scared of dropping and breaking it.

I am starting to come to grips with my $35 cheap and nasty plastic ones. :-) They don't really like having my[masked] [[masked] equiv] lens hanging off the front of the pair of them, but with my 12-50 [24-100] with 43mm [86] 'macro', I took these recently: http://goo.gl/ioqwa4

Nice find with the location Mick.
It didn't feel crowded in the small area and was good to have the group close for social purposes.

I am still hoping to make this tomorrow as my first meet up. Is there a specific meeting place? Best spot for parking? Apologies if these questions have been asked/answered.

Its on South Terrace opposite Magarey House, which is no. 284. It has a distinctive entrance which you can see on Google Street view. There is parking on both sides of South Terrace.

Guys you might want to change the time? If you guys meetup at 4, that really gives you less then an hour to take photos and or chat etc... as the park closes at 5:30? Never been there so no I idea if it shutting has any impact?

    March 16

    • Sebastian N.

For those wanting to socialise, with the garden closing at 5.30pm and the proximity of the city there are numerous cafes / restaurants / pubs within a 5min walk where we could have dinner and talk. Depending on how many people are interested we need to consider reserving a table.

Just Arrived in Adelaide and ready for my first Meetup here, though i enjoyed many back in India. Very Excited to meet new people and make friends.

I stay in Para Vista, can someone guide me as how to reach the place as i don't have a car yet.

Thanks in advance, Chandan Kumar ( SeeKay / CK )

    March 16

    • Richard T.

Chandan, until you get a car, if you have a smart phone, the Google Maps app has public transport directions for getting around Adelaide. If you don't have a smart phone then you can do the same from a computer, but of course that won't give you the flexibility to know when the next bus is due.

      1 · March 16

    • Chandan A.

Thanks a lot for the offer Richard, i would pick up a bus to the city and join you. Will give you a call 2 days in advance and confirm with you in case you have any change in plans.

Hi Suzanne and Jen, please feel free to bring your budding photographers along. There is another member who I believe will also be bringing her daughter who is around the same age as your children. She has joined in previously and her company was very welcome. This meetup is child friendly although we don't have any child safe policies or screening as it is a casual group that isn't formally organised. It would be a pleasure to have your company.

      That's great Melanie :)

I have rsvp'd yes but just want to check that my 12yr old daughter is welcome, she uses my 400d. She has been on Red Bubble shoots in the past with no issues. Didn't no wether you have a child free policy.

    March 14

    • Jen

Suzanne, I plan to come to this and drag my budding photographer 12 year old boy along too. I don't know of any child-free policy for this group.

      March 14

    • Sue J.

That's great, look forward to being there :)

I came to the last macro shoot. And the way the last one was presented I wouldnt want to do it again. I was hoping to leanr something about macro photography- even in a casual way by meeting others- I met no-one! ....except a lady I approached on her way to the coffee shop- she had talked to no-one either.

I feel there are 2 distinct levels of photographers in this group, and to encourage those who are learning or a a bit shy, perhaps the organisers could consider having 2 helpers to mix with ppl and give tips and actually meet ppl. You need to state what type of event it is on each meetup also- solo walk and shoot, a workshop, some instruction given? so ppl know what is involved- it just seems a bit vague too me.....pls take this as constructive feedback..

Hi Kathleen, although this is purely a 'meet up' group, it is full of friendly and helpful people. I would say all members would be willing to help and/or point you in the right direction for help if asked.

I arrived 30-40minutes late for the last macro shoot and most participants were still within metres of the meeting spot and hung in the general area for a solid hour and I found members at just about every area I went to for the next few hours...

Long story short, something obviously didn't go right but don't let this put you off attending a future meet up.

Hi Kathleen, sorry your experience was not so positive. The organisers have tried to initiate some changes to ensure that there is a more obvious group, including developing a sign that is placed out at the beginning of the meet. Everyone in the group has something different to contribute. There are some people who are qualified and employed photographers & other's, such as myself, who are amateurs who are still learning techniques and settings. There are a lot of really good people in this group who are willing to share their time and expertise. However, I suspect you have not had the opportunity to meet anyone so you don't know this yet. If it's possible, perhaps you can try to come to one of the meet & greet drinks one Friday evening so you can meet a couple of people and get to know a few faces before going out on a field trip. Also, I wonder if you attended the Botanic Gardens meet in December? Problems with parking in the area meant many people were unable to get there at all.
