WordPress Developer Tools & Intro Meeting

** NOTE NEW DATE OF SEPT 14th**

This is the kickoff meeting for Advanced WordPress LA! We're trying out a weekend to see how that goes. The format will be a little different than the typical meetups. We're planning on a more open, discussion format - a place to brainstorm, share ideas and learn from each other.

WordPress Developer Tools

For this initial meetup we'll be discussing the tools we use to develop WordPress sites. Code editors, version control, local installs etc etc. Swap notes and compare experiences on what works for you!

Ideas for Future Meetups

Bring ideas for future topics you'd like to see discussed.

Location and Parking

Metered street parking is available on Hill and Broadway Streets. There is also a paid parking lot at 420 Bernard in Bamboo Plaza with reasonable rates, or another lot on Broadway. For public transit, we are a couple of blocks from the Chinatown Gold Line station, and multiple bus routes go up and down Hill and Broadway. For up-to-date parking information the night of the event, please check parkme.com or use ParkMe's iPhone or Android app (see links above).

Cost

Thanks to our generous sponsor, this meetup is free for all to attend.

Map to help you find us

http://bit.ly/qy8Xkj... kleverdog coworking is located in an alleyway between Hill and Broadway; just a couple doors down from Phoenix Bakery on Broadway. Look for the bright red door with the 418 address -- we'll be downstairs.

This is the web security company I mentioned:
    http://www.sucuri.net
If you ever have a site hacked they will clean it up and also provide ongoing monitoring. I think it's around $90 annually for one site.

Good to see everyone today. Sorry I had to bug out before it had quite ended!

It looks like WP Migrate DB Pro is made by the same person who makes WP Migrate DB, which is the free version, and really handy in its own right. I'll have to check out the Pro version.

I also looked to see if Automattic had some security scanning in VaultPress, and if you've paid for the highest tier ($40/month), they do offer security scanning. Other than that, it's all about backups.

Jan mentioned this tutorial on Sublime Text, which I agree is quite good to give you an idea of some of the things that make it interesting. Version 3 is in beta now, which improves a bunch of stuff.

I will do my best to make it today but my car was hit overnight and I'm dealing with police and insurance companies and tow trucks this morning. Trying to get everything fixed up in time. Hope I see everybody today.

August 24 & 25 is the FYF music festival at LA Historic Park in China Town very close to Kleverdog. Parking in and around China Town will be brutal. Maybe a different date for our first meeting. http://fyffest.com/
