AWP Website Hackathon sponsored by Bastos Ventures

This month's meetup is sponsored by Michael's Bastos Ventures, we are excited to be doing doing something a little different. This month's meetup will revolve around updating and doing something cool with the website that the community as a whole can use and cherish. Ideas will be discussed at the beginning of the event and tasks will be handed out, plugins will be tested and themes will be redesigned all in one grand attempt to change the AWP website in one night. Everyone that comes will have a hand in changing some aspect of the site for the better so if you love AWP, and you want to take part in making our whole experience a little better than please come on out and join us. Free food will be available by the way for those who help out...

It's a good idea to bring a laptop so you can share your code, write notes, save links, etc. during the meetup.

6:00 - 6:15 Pre-meeting Networking

The meet up doesn't 'officially' kick-off until 6:15ish. Please try to get here during the half-hour before so you can mingle, network and hang out with fellow AWPers. We understand people have a hard time getting downtown or finding parking so there's a slight buffer. During this time we will start to pass around the sign up list for those looking to share.

6:30 - 6:45 Hellos, Heys and Introductions

Introduce yourself to the group, don't be shy, we are a friendly bunch. Please tell us your name and what you do, and your experience with WordPress. Have you written a plugin or theme? Maybe you're a blogger or business owner that uses WordPress. That's great! What you looking to get out of the meetup?

6:45 - 7:00 What's in the WP News?

WordPress news roundup. In this time we'll talk about what's happened since our last meeting in the WordPress world. There's always so much going on... this is a brief run through of some of interesting and discussed topics on the AWP facebook group.

7:00 - 8:00 AWP Website Sprint Planning

So we will come up with what our tasks will be for the new site, what we would like to see or do to it, what's feasable and what's not etc.

8:00 - 10:00 Hacking & Networking

If you don't feel comfortable hacking away at then feel free to stick around and network with folks. The goal is to give people time to get things situated.

Here are the four top priorities for the website that I wrote down before we broke into individual teams. If any information is now inaccurate based on discussions in your teams, please leave a reply.

    * Theme and Plugin Review - Team Lead: AJ
    - Take the form of articles for the site.
    - Focus on usability and feature reviews
    - Would like to implement a star rating system
    - Video reviews

    * Weekly email - Team Lead: Yaron
    - FB/G+ group digest
    - Showcase upcoming events
    - Use admin votes to narrow down best content
    - Future: automate the process

    * Jobs Board - Team Lead: Devin
    - Plugin
    - Jobs available
~ Overflow work from other local developers

    * Searchable Compiled FB/G+ - Team Lead: Michael
    - Looking for quality posts
    - Automatically scrape from FB/G+ and enter as draft article
    - Admins publish
    - Possibly use grease monkey browser plugin

So... I work in digital marketing, with a few startup projects on the backburner, but want to meet some developers in the area. Is this a good event to attend, or would I be out of place?

Please come and join us! As Michael stated, this particular meeting will be a little different than our usual ones. We are working on the group's website, but we really want input from members and I'm sure with your background you will have great insight. Also, it's always a great way to network...and there is food ;)

EvoNexus is intense name, can't wait to see the place. Let me know if there is anything I can bring as far as snacks or drinks to help out with the shindig.
