Bluetooth LE & Working with External Devices

Your iPhone doesn't live in a vacuum.  Modern iPhones are capable of interfacing with external devices through a number of different APIs.  John Brewer will lead projects covering several different aspects of connecting an iOS device to external devices.

Areas covered:* Bluetooth LE* MFi (Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch) Game Controllers* Interfacing with 3rd party MFi devices, such as Pebble, Galileo and Romo.* Creating and using iBeacons
One overall project will be to remotely control an iPhone-powered Romo robot over Bluetooth LE from another iPhone using an MFi game controller.
Separately, we'll set up and use iBeacons using Apple's AirLocate sample code.

John Brewer is an independent iOS developer focusing on computer vision applications for iPhone.  His latest app, ResistorVision is currently in beta testing at

An important discovery we made after most people had left: Once you've calibrated your iBeacon in AirLocate, you need to copy the calibration value from the receiving device to the iBeacon device! The calibration value is broadcast as part of the iBeacon message.

Thanks so much to John and Manjula. It was a lot of fun to spend time experimenting with BLE. That little robot was awesome. I need one!

This will mostly be hands-on coding. I'll make my code available on github. I'll also make any slides I use available.
