To find us: go the Best Buy at 1717 Harrison Street and look inside for the man in the yellow hat. Tell him you're looking for the iPhone 6 "House Special". Don't let the Pinkertons spot you, or the jig is up! You'll receive further directions from there.
In September, we're psyched to be hosting a presentation and conversation with Nick A. Olivero, the Artistic Director of Boxcar Theatre and the acclaimed local immersive production The Speakeasy.
As those who have seen it know, during its run (which ended June 21), The Speakeasy established a deep and subtle narrative world and a wealth of interactive/experiential opportunities, all in a compact physical space. Whether you stayed in one place and watched episodes and encounters play out, or followed a particular character in their path and grew to understand their story, or just gambled the entire time (!!), the feeling of a complex interwoven tale playing out around you like clockwork was incredible and inspiring. (The show is re-opening next year, so if you didn't see it, you'll still have a chance!)
"The Speakeasy is a choose-your-own-adventure collection of character studies of the folks who populate a San Francisco speakeasy in the 1920s. There are the mob bosses and the showgirls, the fallen heroes and the families they (tried to) leave behind. The dramatic tension here is romantic and political, it comes out through dialogue, song, and dance, and it's performed in the chair next to you one moment and behind glass the next. " –The Bold Italic
Nick will be talking about his work on The Speakeasy, and Boxcar Theatre's long history in exploratory, immersive, and site-specific work.
