We are a select group of hardy hikers & snowshoers who are passionate about mountains, the alpine, and "the path less travelled". If you love the freedom of backcountry hiking, scrambling, and snowshoeing, and you work well within a team setting in the service of safely summiting pristine snow capped peaks, this group is for you!
Pictures are worth a thousand words: to get a better feel for our group, click on "Photos" at the above left and go through our trip albums.
We have had a wonderful 2014 of alpine treks and fantastic scrambles - on trail, off-trail, or no trail. So far in 2015, while most have given up on spring because of subpar snow conditions, we continue to draw on our alpine experience and reservoir of local knowledge to seek out amazing snow trips. Our backcountry snowshoes to some of our most pristine peaks - until recently the sole preserve of ski mountaineering - are at the forefront of snowshoeing anywhere.
As a small group adventure outfit, our numbers typically range from 3 to 8. So everyone on our outings usually gets to play an integral part, and contributes meaningfully to our success.
An increasing number of alpine recreationists see continuous learning as an essential part of breaking down people’s assumptions as well as for creating best practices among participants. Our group definitely exemplifies that ethos.
Judgment, a well-rounded skill set, and high personal competence within a group context: these are what we encourage and foster in our group, with new quality individuals and veteran members alike.
While book learning and attending courses are helpful, nothing replaces experienced sets of eyes when it comes to terrain assessment, Go-No Go decision-making, risk mitigation, and team cohesion. By being part of a well-tempered, close-knit mountain family, you have ensured yourself an unbeatable start.
There will be a fair number of weekday adventures as well. If the sun is out and the sky is clear, I shall be inclined to take the day off! ;-)
What if you don't have a lot of alpine and snow trip experience? Well, if you appreciate and relish the discipline and give & take of teamwork; you thrive on complexities and their nuanced solutions; you value quality over quantity; and you prefer smaller groups to our massive local hike trains; as well, you are generally calm, methodical, positive, gritty, adventurous, young-minded; and lastly, you are fit with a high stamina, a good cardio base, and possess a superb work ethic; then, by all means, come join us!
