Always wanted to sail, but don't know how to get started? Are you interested in either cruising or racing? A boat-owning skipper looking for crew, or crew looking for a sweet ride? Need someone to help get your boat ready? Want to learn the Zen and the Art of Boat Maintenance for free? How about having a boat to sail this summer for much less that you would think, with virtually none of the grief? Just want to hang at a cool Yacht Club and meet new people? On March 10th at 5pm, City Island Yacht Club... a picturesque, waterfront, private club has allowed me to open it's doors for a limited number of Meetups to non members. It helps to be the Fleet Captain! This is our first big event of the season - where you get to connect with many skippers and crew on a face to face basis. No wallflowers here as everyone gets to work the room, table by table, to talk to skippers and exchange numbers for racing, cruising, you name it. We attract people with all levels of experience from the curious to circumnavigators. Many have caught their first sail through this event, many are now cruising or on race teams... and a number have found their "sailmate". Let's get this 2012 season started! As the sun sets below the yardarm over Eastchester Bay this Saturday, we'll take our new connections right to the dance floor as the music pumps it up through the night! The restaurant and pub will be wide open. Details and menu will follow. We can only accommodate 100 people so I am opening it to my members first. I will then have it posted on other sailing sites and in print. Single groups from the greater New York area will also be invited. A waiting list will be updated weekly. Did I mention there's no admission? Please feel free to repost this on other sites.
Please RSVP at www.sailing.meetup.com/68
We have SOLD OUT! Over 100 attending. Please go to www.sailing.meetup.com/68 to get on the waiting list and sign up for upcoming seminars and events.
Hi
I don't have a car. How can I get there by public transportation?
Kiku
Take the Lexington Ave IRT Local # 6 train to Pelham Bay Park Station and then the #29 bus to Pilot St. Walk down on the right to the end of the block. Check sailing.meetup.com/68 for other directions or to post for carpools.
Looking forward to meeting you Miss Kittycat. Do you purr if I stroke your fur?
I am very sorry to let you know that I am not going to make it tonigt. I know that it is unfortunate since I took someone else's place. I was supposed to get back to the city with a friend from Long Island just in time for the event, but our car broke down in the middle of the trip from the island and we are still in the shop trying to fix the problem :-( Wish you all a nice evening and hopefully see you some other time.
All must RSVP on www.meetup.com/Greater-New-York-Sa
