*Best of Vermont * Stowe Ski/Snowboard weekend (February 22-24)

  • Feb 22, 2013 · 8:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Stowe mountain resort is on every east coast skier/snowboarders list of top places they love to go, and for good reason!

Stowe is a premier resort with 116 beautiful trails ranging from beginner to expert ability levels, 13 ski lifts including the high speed gondola, 485 skiable acres (including a ton of backcountry trails and unmarked glades if you're up for the challenge, I'll take you there), and an average annual snowfall of 333 inches! Skiing/snowboarding conditions at Stowe are as good as they get in the Northeast!

This trip is welcome to skier/boarders of all abilities/levels, from 1st timers to expert skiers, Stowe has something for everyone. If you have not had the opportunity to experience this phenomenal resort yet, here is your ticket!

LODGING

We will stay at the Mountaineer Inn in Stowe, which provides a uniquely combined rustic charm, modern facilities and old-fashioned Vermont hospitality.

The hotel is just a short drive away from the ski resort on the Mountain Access Rd. Some of the amenities offered at the Mountaineer Inn, that will make your ski weekend more enjoyable, include free shuttle bus service to the ski resort, 20 person hot tub, indoor pool, sauna, and ski/snowboarding gear storage closet.

Cost:

Early Bird Special - $243 (Valid for payments submitted before 10 PM on February 3rd)

Regular Price - $263 (for payments submitted after 10 PM on February 3rd)

*note - all prices assume double occupancy; each room has two double beds and a full bathroom

Included in the package:

•2 nights lodging at the Mountaineer Inn (Friday 2/22, and Saturday 2/23)
•2 Day All Mountain Lift Ticket at Stowe Ski Resort (Saturday 2/23, and Sunday 2/24)
•Full Breakfast each day
•Use of all amenities, including Hot Tub, Heated Pool, and Sauna
•All taxes and service charges

Transportation:

We will carpool (indicate in your RSVP if you need a ride).

Stowe is about a 5.5-6 hour drive away from New York City.

Ideally, you should leave the city no later than 5 PM on Friday. This will ensure that you get to Stowe by 10-11 PM, have enough time to unpack and prepare for the morning, maybe even test the hot tub, have a "night cap" and get a good night of sleep.

To compensate car owners who are putting serious mileage on their cars we recommend passengers to pay all gas and tolls related expenses.

At the same time, we urge drivers not to overcharge their passengers.

We will do our best to organize rides in a way that will ensure equal passenger distribution per car, minimum commuting for passengers and local pickups for drivers.

Checking in:

If you arrive at the hotel before 11PM on Friday, the front desk attendant will check you in and hand you an envelope with room keys and ski passes for you and your roommate(s).

If you arrive at the hotel after 11PM on Friday, an envelope with your and your roommate's keys will wait for you at the front desk - your last names and the room number will be written on the envelope. Your ski passes will not be in the envelope. Please go back to the front desk when you get up in the morning to officially check in, and pick up your ski passes.

*Note - Ski pass is a wireless ID tag card serving as your lift ticket. Please put the card in a safe place (i.e. inside of your wallet or ski jacket pocket), and keep it on you at all times when you're at the ski resort. The card does not have to be visibly displayed; as long as you have it in one of your pockets, wireless readers located in front of every ski lift will read the tag and let you through the gate.

RSVP policy:

Please RSVP yes only if you are certain about going and ready to submit your payment by stated deadlines.

There is a limited number of spots available for this trip.

RSVPing yes, not paying, and then changing your RSVP status in the last minute prevents others from signing up and will certainly earn you a bad rep with this group.

Please answer all RSVP questions. These questions are necessary for the hotel room reservations, and will also help us plan and organize room and ride shares.

If you make rooming and/or driving arrangements with other members directly, please communicate through emails and limit message board posts to questions and information that is of concern for the entire group.

If you do not make any arrangements on your own, we will suggest roommate/driver/passengers based on your preferences and departing location.

Rentals:

If you need to rent gear, Pinacle Ski and Sports is conveniently located immediately next door only 300 feet away from Mountaineer Inn.Ski/Snowboard Rentals:

You can use the link below to make a reservation for your ski or snowboard gear and save $5 off their in-store prices.

http://www.pinnacleskisports.com/rent_equipment.html

Daily rate for a full ski/snowboard package is $25 when reserved online. Please make sure to submit your online reservation form at least 48h before the trip.

    Guys,
First of all I hope everyone got home safe...driving through that storm last night was no fun.

Thank you all for coming, and I hope to see you again on another adventure trip.

Conditions look amazing for this weekend. There's a good dose of snow in the forecast, from 4" yesterday, to another forecasted 4-8" tonight and now they're talking about another new storm coming Saturday night with 6-12" forecasted! Pray for snow and lots of it!

hi, i just joined the group, and this trip looks awesome!! i saw that there's a waiting list. any chance there is room for one more? i'd also need a ride for me + my snowboard.. happy to chip in for car, gas, etc. and share a room with anyone in the same boat

    February 18, 2013

    • Goran

Unfortunately, the hotel is sold out...the conditions are great for skiing and all affordable hotels in the area are either sold out, or have 1-2 rooms left at premium prices...so at this point we cannot add any more people to this trip...

      February 19, 2013

    • Nilesh P.

Roger that. Goran and Billy, thanks so much for trying. Glad to be a part of this group and I'll catch y'all at another outing. Have fun at Stowe!

All of you probably know this, but someone I met last week made me wanna post this:
Ski and snowboard rental packages do not include pants, jackets, gloves or goggles - these are the items that you have to bring with you on any ski/snowboarding trip.
If you do not have any of these please contact me for a recommendation on where to get them cheap.

    February 16, 2013

Driving with Kevin and Anna. Have room for one more leaving from Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. Hopefully around 3 pm.

    February 14, 2013

    • Jin

I meant blue not bule, haha. Anyway, I enjoy blue more than black :)

      February 15, 2013

    • Raja

I'm with bill too you can totally handle blacks.. Jin you have been doing blues for too many years now you have to face your fears and step up to the next level now, that's the only way to get better is to challenge yourself and ski with people one notch better than you

      February 13, 2013

Count me in for black diamonds and tree skiing. Jill's a strong beginner; she'll likely ski mostly blue/green and possibly hit a couple diamonds.

    February 13, 2013

    • Raja

Awesome! We could all do one big group blue run together with everyone Sat morning. We'll all meet at top of Gondola 1030 am for a nice morning cruiser and then split off in whatever direction

Blues and black diamonds for me!

    1 · February 13, 2013

  • Raja

Any advanced skiers on this trip that do double diamond and woods runs (I know alot of "hidden" unmarked glade trails at Stowe that are amazing)? Its always better skiing with company :)

    1 · February 12, 2013

    • Raja

I already counted you in Bill! And the more the merrier...It'll be fun times, duck ropes at Hacketts again, maybe Goat and Starr

      February 13, 2013

    • Jay

I'm with ya! Bringing both skies and board, will let snopw conditions dictate weather I ski or snowboard. Love tree skiing!

Mostly Green;Maybe Blue; Not interested in any other Colors!...hahaha:)...LOL!

    2 · February 13, 2013

I will be trying greens and blues on sat and possibly blacks on sun!

    2 · February 13, 2013

  • Goran

Hey guys, it may be a good idea to post what is your ability level and what trails (green, blue, black) do you plan on doing at Stowe...that way you can get contact info from people with similar interests and skill level, and organize meeting times and locations for your mini-group runs.
Depending on when you get to Stowe on Friday night, you may or may not have a chance to hang out and discuss this with other group members at the spot; so at least note who is in your target group, and then you can try to find them and say hello during the breakfast

    February 13, 2013

  • Billy

Driving from Bedford Hills, NY. Driving Jill and Jenny. Room for 1 more with ski/board. Can pickup from Metronorth Bedford Hills. Leaving ~3pm Friday.

i need a ride. have no equipment just my helmet and carry on

    February 11, 2013

  • Nataly L H.

is this trip just for advanced skiers only? sounds like a cool trip but I am a beginner with no ride or gear...

    January 26, 2013

    • camilla

Nataly, my friend is first-timer, so you have at least a company of one :)

      February 8, 2013

    • Raja

Couple of my friends coming are also beginners so you will have people to hang with no worries :)

      February 11, 2013

  • camilla

If we rent equipment from Pinacle will it be too much trouble to carry it to the slopes? Would it be more convenient to rent something right at the slopes?

    February 8, 2013

    • Goran

Should not be a problem...the slope is only about 10 mins away so even if you have to hold things in your lap during the ride, it's a short one...

      February 8, 2013

    • Raja

I would highly suggest renting from a local shop such as Pinnacle, its easier, quicker, and cheaper. Transport to the mountain is easy also, and they have free lockers for use at the spruce base lodge. Plus you'll have the gear for two days so you'll only need to do the rentals one time and then return at the end of the weekend. To put it into numbers, gear rental for a day costs $49 at the mountain vs $25 at Pinnacle (with online advance reservation). Thats a HUGE savings

I am going to be in Sugarloaf that weekend. Have fun guys.
