The Rose Parade

  • Jan 1, 2013 · 7:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The Rose Parade needs no introduction. It's one of those things you have to see before you die, in person (why watch it in TV if you live in SoCal?). This year's theme is about travel. The parade starts at 8:00 and lasts 2 hr.

* Meeting point: The Walgreens located at corner of Colorado blvd. and Sierra Madre blvd. I chose this location because it's a good viewing spot and it's far away from the big crowds.

* Parking: anywhere you can, as close as you can. Come as early as you can. ** If you come late, you may not get a parking spot nearby or a viewing spot on the curb **. 700,000+ people attend the parade each year. Some even camp overnight to secure a spot.

* What to bring: What you would bring for an outdoors event (camping chair, cooler, drinks, snacks, jacket, hat/cup, sunglasses, camera, etc.) What not to bring: glass bottles

Any questions?

We're right on the corner outside Wakgreens by the traffic light. There's still room on the curb and on the streets to park.

Metro's golden line is a great alternative to driving if you live West/SW of Pasadena. Take a look at the map so can see if the route works for you: http://www.metro.net/riding/maps/gold-line Another option is to take the bus. There's a stop at the corner of Colorado & Sierra Madre.

I've been going on and off for the last 5 years. Best way to go - is GO METRO. I normally park and ride at the Artesia Transit Center and take one bus to the parade (cost - one way fare $1.60). It truly beats paying or finding park at/around the parade. Another option is taking the train (metro), not sure where the drop off is to meeting spot for the group. and fyi dress in layers, it's rather chilly in the morning but will typically warm up as they day goes by. ~Shane~

yes, public transportation is a great idea. The metro's golden line goes through Pasadena. The Allen Ave. station is the closest to the meeting point. I'd be a long walk but less hassle than parking.

The weather forecast is look great. Don't forget to bring warm clothes (jacket, hat, etc.). It's going to be chilly early in the morning: http://www.weather.com/weather/holiday/new-years/Pasadena+CA+USCA0840:1:US

Is anyone carpooling (since parking can be so tricky)?

FYI, I called the Vons. They'll be open but their parking lot will be closed to the public (other businesses will prob. do the same).

Please note that we're meeting at 7:00 am. You should plan to arrive much earlier than that. I'll be there by 6:00. The City of Pasadena won't give you a ticket if you park (legally) on the street between 2:00 and 6:00. There are also private parking lots but they'll be charging up to $30/day. Tuesday morning I'm going to post/email updates giving you my exact location, parking info, etc. But you guys shouldn't wait for my update. Like said, try to arrive as early as possible BEFORE 7:00.
