Annual Kingston Camping Trip and Floating the River!!!!!!!!

Hi All,

Grab your raft, kayak, or tube and lets hit the river!!!! This camping trip was done last year, and we had a lot of fun, so thought it would be fun to do it again. We will plan to go up on Friday evening, set up camp, and get ready for a weekend of fun. We will plan to float the river saturday morning, and I will post the time as the event gets closer, in case there are any who want to just come for the float. This is a beautiful area. There is berry picking, cliff jumping, waterfalls you can explore, bike/motorcycle trails, and pretty much something for everyone. Lets get out and enjoy the weekend, and hopefully great weather!!!! Will post more info as the date gets closer in regards to camping location.

I look forward to this event every year. Sure we had some heat, rain and bugs...but we also had a Great time too. Fri. we spent the day playing in the water and the skies cleared up perfectly, just as we started our float, on Sat. Great time, thanks Jackie and Jim.

We are looking forward to next year when we will definitely stay for the weekend and camp with such a great group. Thanks Robert for all your help hauling our stuff so it wouldn't get wet!

OK, we have plenty of room for tenters and RV. Having a great time. On our way to the river.k

I am headed up this morning. If the camp site is full we will find a new one that can accomodate the group. We will post paper plates if we need to move the camp site. Look for paperplates that say SPK/CDA Group- posted. Otherwise we will be at the planned camp site. See you all there!!!!

    July 13, 2012

  • Bob B

We are talking to people that are leaving tomorrow and they have a nice tent site that will accommodate 5-7 tents. We will try to grab it.

    July 12, 2012

  • Kelly H.

Any idea how many people are planning to bring tents? We have 2 and are wondering what our odds are going to be to have a tent site if we get up there tomorrow around 4:00. We may just come up for the float if it looks like there are no tent sites left.

    July 12, 2012

  • Bob B

We are here located at the enterance. Look for the green jellybeen trailer and beighe pagoda. Room for three more trailers on our site. We have a large neighboring site that can fit 3-7 tents. Sory not much shade. The camp sites are almozt full. Bring card tables and chairs, no picnic tables. Brind lots of sun screen, bug spray, water and very cold beer. See you when you get here.

I90 Kingston exit Exxon or right hand side has free air for inflating rafts, free water for RVs, $3.00 RV dump, ice and firewood. They have a full mini mart. Carla is super nice.

Kelly, there is water near by, at the Bumble bee camp ground, hand pump, about a 1/4 mile round trip.
Taresa, in the past put in takes about an hour with the drive, shuttling cars, getting unloaded and into the water, then float (about 3-4 hours). So probably done about 3-4 PM. Also, in the past, some folks wanted to do more, so we have gone to the upper part of the river (neat 20 foot cliff to jump off near there) and done another 3-4 hours, ending at Bumble Bee bridge.

  • Taresa N.

If we start floating at 10:00, what time do we wrap it up? I ask because I'm arranging child care back home. Need to let Grandma know what time we'll be back!

    July 12, 2012

  • Kelly H.

Should we bring drinking water also?

    July 12, 2012

  • jeff

Just a a FYI, if you have any fire wood, bring it, there is no firewood at or near the camping area, also if you have a small BBQ, that would be a good idea as well.

Went to Big R today and bought River Rat tubes for $6.95 each! Looking forward to a great time on the river and camping!

    July 11, 2012

  • jeff

Hi all, just wanted folks to know that Big R has their Explorer 200 inflatable rafts on sale for $9.95. They are twice that at White Elephant and are perfect for one adult. I have used mine for several year now. Looking forward to see everyone this weekend.

  • Janell

I'll try to get up there on Saturday morning at 9:00 (at the campground), so I'll be sure not to miss you guys. I love this float and miss hanging with you guys too. It's going to be hot this weekend and the water will feel great. See you all soon!

    July 11, 2012

  • Jackie

Janell- That is right we want to try to be pulling out of the campsite by ten am. I hope you can make it. I have missed hanging with you!!!!

    July 11, 2012

  • Janell

Jackie ~ I'm going to try to come up for the day on Saturday. I think you said that I should be at the campsite no later than 10:00, is that right?

    July 10, 2012

  • Jackie

That looks right Bob. It is however not Bumble Bee, but just across the road from Bumble Bee. You basically want to get off I-90 at the Kingston exit, and turn left. This will take you back over I-90. You just keep following the road until you see the sign for Bumble Bee camp ground and you take a left. Stay going straight on that road past where we put in to float. Keep following and then turn into the camping area on the left just before the road turns to dirt. Same place as last year.

After looking a little closer, I think this is it. Can you confirm Jacky. - http://goo.gl/maps/ftmG

    July 10, 2012

  • Bob B

Hi Jacky, is this the same BumbleBee Campground as last year. I think I remember how to get there. It looks like Phyllis and I will be the first to arrive so I want to make sure. Is this link to the correct Campground? - http://goo.gl/maps/xlj7

Janell, I am taking off Friday but don't know where I'm going. Can I follow you up there? call me[masked]

    July 9, 2012

  • Betty A.

Lori, you don't have to wear one, it's just a good idea. Yes you may use two of them :)

    July 9, 2012

  • lori

    Betty
I see that your bringing extra life jacket. It they are mandatory can I borrow 2 from you?

    July 9, 2012

  • lori

Are life jackets mandatory when floating the river? if so can I borrow a couple from some one?

    July 9, 2012

  • Betty A.

I will bring extra life jackets to share

    July 9, 2012

  • Jackie

Sorry one last thing. Alcohol is allowed on the river, but absolutely no glass bottles. They will stop us and issue tickets if you have any glass bottles with you. They don't require life jackets for the float, but never a bad safety idea, so use your own judgement.

    July 9, 2012

  • Jackie

Should be great weather!!!!! Looking forward to spending the weekend with everyone.

    July 9, 2012

  • Jackie

We will need volunteers to leave their cars at the bottom, so that we can get everyone back to their cars at the top after the float. It makes more sense then paying $5 a person to take the shuttle back to the top.

    July 9, 2012

  • Jackie

We are not going to do a group meal. It is just to hard to organize. Everyone just bring their own food for the weekend. You will also want to bring a lunch or snacks, and drinks for floating the river. If anyone is just coming up for the day to float we will be leaving the camp ground at 10 am to head to the launch spot, so meet us at the camp ground prior to 10 am.

    July 9, 2012

  • Jackie

I have had to change my plans to go up Thurs due to kayaking on Thurs night. We will be heading up early fri morning, and will save as many spots as we can, and like Jeff said it is first come first serve, and there is no cost to camp and no reservations taken. Everyone just get there as soon as you can. I will be posting directions this evening.

    July 9, 2012

  • jeff

Betty Ann, the camp area we usually use is free and is first there use, so no fees or resev. Try to go early Friday if you can. Jackie is going up on Thur. to help save some spots.

    July 9, 2012

  • Marti

Are we using the group camp site? Are we planning a group meal, maybe Saturday evening?

    July 9, 2012

  • jeff

    Thanks Bob

    July 9, 2012

  • Betty A.

Do we need to make a reservation or pay in advance?

    July 9, 2012

  • Bob B

Hi, to anyone that wants to change his or her screen name. Go to the upper right of the screen and click on ACCOUNTS. You will see your name with EDIT to the right of it. Click on EDIT to change your name and then SUBMIT. ALSO, you will want to get familiar with GENERAL and EMAIL SETTINGS. This will allow you to change the way people see you and what emails you will receive for each MeetUp group. Jackie. I think only the member can change their profile information.

    July 9, 2012

  • Jackie

Fred your email is blocked, so I can't respond to the post you left on my profile. I don't know how to remove the last names. I would check with whoever told you you can't have them listed. I don't know if Kingston requires invasive species stickers, but all of the other Idaho lakes do.

    June 27, 2012

  • PJ F.

Have to double check but I'm thinking I'm river rafting on the Clark Fork this weekend with my son.

    June 2, 2012

  • Alex P.

You bring the tent, I'll bring the float boat, PJ...

    May 27, 2012

  • Jackie

PJ, people use all kinds of floating devices to float the river. We use the tubes used for tubing. We take a small shopvac to blow them up when we get to the water. People use anything from kayaks to River Rat tubes. A sturdy tube would be better. Remember the water could be very cold.

    May 6, 2012

  • PJ F.

Ok, what kind of "tube" works?? Need water transport. Can get my hands on a raft but no way to get it to the H2O !

    April 29, 2012

  • Jackie

Great thanks Janell! Marti said she can go up early too, and we are hopeing to be able to go up early too. Whoever gets up their earliest just spread stuff out as much as possible to hold as many areas as possible. We are planning on staying in the same spot we did last year, and hopefully we can get the spots down by where you stayed too, since that kept everyone close together.

    April 16, 2012

  • Janell

Jackie, I will definitely be able to get up there Friday morning. I'll leave my car in one spot, my tent in another spot, and camp chairs on other spots. Hopefully a few others will show up so we can save even more spots. : )
