Allamuchy North to a peak southwest of Cranbury lake two weeks ago. It's hilly, and the weather was cold. I think it was 5-6 miles.
Wildcat Ridge/Split Res. is probably my favorite place to hike because there are a lot of relics in the woods and that makes it interesting
A MAP! always, always, always...flashlight, headlamp, water, snacks, knives, rope, first aid kit that includes remedies for the type of injuries that are likely to occur, benedryl type meds, bandages of different shapes and sizes, iondine wipes, dental repair kit, sewing kit, a SAM splint, CPR mask, matches or lighter, extra batteries, any prescription med's that I'm on, poncho (even if it's sunny), note pad, shoe laces, sweatshirt, enoslite pad, gps reciever, cell phone, camera, bug spray, wipes, zip loc baggies
No, I always familiarize myself with the area before I get there. I always bring at least one kind of map, and a GPS receiver and my cell phone that has can also be GPS receiver.
