Come join us for an incredible journey through the NJ Meadowlands wildlife area.

Our MEADOWLANDS DISCOVERY chartered cruise will take participants on an excursion through the tidal reaches of the Hackensack River and its wildlife-rich estuary, the Meadowlands. The shallow draft of our boats enables us to visit numerous wetlands including Bellman's Creek, the Mill Creek Marsh, Kingsland Creek and the Berry's Creek Canal; but the highlight of every Meadowlands Eco-Cruise is a trip through the Sawmill Creek Wildlife Management Area – the “The Jewel of the Meadowlands”. The Sawmill WMA is home to a staggering amount of wildlife including shorebirds, waterfowl, herons, raptors, muskrats and more.

Our boat has a capacity of 13 people but we're limiting participation to only 10 people to make sure we have ample room to maneuver for photographing.

Our departure time time will coincide with an ebbing tide to enhance our chances to photograph birds feeding.

Our craft will be captained by either Capt. Hughie or Capt. Bill

Our Eco-Cruise and educational tours of the Hackensack River and the NJ Meadowlands aboard Hackensack Riverkeeper's specially-rigged pontoon boats, the Robert H. Boyle and the Edward Abbey. Captain Bill Sheehan started our Eco-Cruise program in 1994 to increase awareness of the lower Hackensack River watershed as a vital natural and recreational resource. Since then more than 25,000 people have traveled with us. Eco-Cruises generally take between 2 and 2 1/2 hours and are fully narrated by a US Coast Guard-licensed Captain.

I learned and saw more of the Meadowlands in 2 1/2 hours than in all the years living in North Jersey. I was able to take some interesting photos while experiencing the challenges of constant movement. Enjoyed meeting other RCC members

Having lived in this area all my life, it was incredible to see the area from the vantage point of the water instead of the road! Really enjoyed being out there. . .

Hi Martin. I still haven't been able to be apart of your meet ups yet but I do get all the emails. I have to say you appear to be doing a great job with your many offerings and interesting ideas. It's nice to see an excursion like this one that is reasonably priced. Keep up the good work. Hope to meet you soon.

What lenses would you recommend? Are you taking a tripod?

      Nancy,

I don't think you'll be able to use a tripod, especially on a boat. Perhaps a monopod. However, I do intend to throw a tripod in my car so just in case..............

I plan on taking my 70 - 200mm lens and my 24 - 70mm lens. I also plan on bringing 2 camera bodies. One is a crop and the other is a full sensor camera. I'll also bring a 1.4 and a 2x extender.

That's about all I could possibly need.

Walter, Unfortunately, I can't see the screen that you're looking at because I'm automatically signed in as the administrator. However, I suspect that when you click on the Meetup and try to join the group, you should get a message that says that the group is full and you should be asked if you'd like to be wait listed. However, to simplify matters, if you'll tell me which Meetup or Meetups you want to be wait listed for, I'll wait list you.

Pardon my ignorance. How does one get wait-listed for one of these events?

Because of exceptional popularity the two sailings scheduled for the 18th of August have sold out. However, I have been able to charter a boat for the morning of August 25th. Our 7:30 a.m. departure time will coincide with low tide which will enhance our chance of seeing birds feeding. This is the only boat available for this date so sign up quickly before this trip sells out as well.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
