The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens is a beautiful gardens close by in Montclair, NJ. The garden is devoted almost exclusively to Irises. They have numerous beds containing an assorted variety of Irises. The beds and Irises are extremely accessible to the photographer. One can almost always find the right angle of light.
The Gardens officially opens at 10:00 a.m. but the gate is always open and photographers can access the flower beds at sunrise to take advantage of early morning light. In addition, one can generally find dew on the flowers that early in the morning.
(I'll probably get there around 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. to take advantage of the sweet morning light.)
Of course, I always come prepared with a spray bottle filled with water and glycerin just in case.
Because of the accessibility of the beds and flowers they are easily photographed with a close up or macro lenses.
Tripods are allowed.
While the garden doesn't charge an entrance fee they do request a donation. Therefore, we are charging $15.00 per person for participation and we will make an appropriate donation to the Gardens.
To help you appreciate how accessible the flowers are for the photographer, here are some images taken at the Gardens on previous visits.
I hope that you find these flowers as alluring as I do and chose to join us on May 24th.
Since this is a weather dependent event, we will make a go/no go decision on Thursday, May 21st, 2014 by 6:00 p.m.
