Wilson Creek Overnight

This trip will effectively be car camping with a Saturday and Sunday day hike. We will drive from the Raleigh area to the Pisgah National Forest in the Wilson Creek area on Friday afternoon with the intention of getting there to set up camp before dark (approx 7:30 PM). We will camp at a relatively secluded location near our cars but out of sight of National Forest Road. On Saturday we will hike upper North Harper Creek trail out and back (approx. 10 miles). On Sunday we will hike Big Lost Cove Cliff before heading home in early afternoon.

There is no cost for this trip since we will not be in a campground. Everyone is expected to bring their own food, tent, and other supplies. You don't need a full pack as we are base camped and day hiking. This trip will be limited to roughly 10 people and I'd like to talk to perspective hikers before adding you to the attendee list to insure, among other things, that you really intend to show up. If you're interested, please send me a message.

Paul....I'm sorry that you were disappointed, however, you did not call Janette as she asked from the parking lot so we had your number and didn't get it until Saturday when we got cell coverage again on a mountain top. Otherwise, we'd have called you when we couldn't find you on the road. Why did you wait until 7:30 PM to call us and not when you were first separated from the caravan? Nonetheless, I understand you weren't happy and I invite you to not sign up for one of my events again.

I feel it's unfair to criticize the group when you show up late to the carpool location and refused to do a rideshare with anyone and didn't call nor give anyone your phone number.

Ken - could my husband and three year old daughter come?

    April 1, 2013

    • Ken

Hi Jamie....I don't think this will be a good one for a three year old. We will be primitive camping with no facilities at all and the hike on Saturday is pretty long.

Since we're leaving at 4, what's the plan for dinner - eat after setting up camp, eat before leaving or what?

Doh, this sounds like a great trip but I already signed up for one that weekend. Hopefully I'll catch this one later in the season. BTW, might want to check out BANFF film tour in High Point on your way back
