Ride the ATT after work

  • July 16, 2013 · 6:30 PM

Please read the full description. I'll only answer questions that are not covered in it.

We will be starting near Southpoint. Final directions will be e-mailed to attendees on Monday before the event. We’ll be riding for about 2  1/4 hours so hopefully the full southern section of 28ish miles round trip, but we’ll adjust distance to accommodate the daylight.

For those unfamiliar with the trail:

This ride is on an easy trail, but does involve some distance. If you've not been riding similar numbers of miles on road or hardpack, you may be extremely tired, sore and/or be cramping up by the end.

The American Tabacco Trail is a rails to trails (quite flat) shady, wide recreational multi use trail. It is open to walk, run, bike, or horses. We will be riding out and back, about 14 miles each way. Mountain bikes are recommended, but highbrid's or road bikes can be used. The surface is pretty good, either paved or screened granite. We'll be averaging about 12 mph.

Helmets are REQUIRED for this ride, and you'll want 1liter of water or so

We may gather for food after the ride, for those who are interested.

Any drop outs on less than 36 hrs notice will be considered "no show"

    Hi All,
It looks like Colin and Dave are not able to make it this week to organize a ride.
Four of us managed to make it to the southern end of ATT last week (July 23) Everyone said they would like to make it this week too, July 30. So if you are interested, please post here or send me an e-mail (or both). Usual time, but parking at Scott King on the side of the road.
    This is an unofficial ride.
    Thanks

    Hi all,
Colin said he and Dave are not able to lead the group this week. Are others interested in riding tomorrow (Tues.) I would suggest meeting at Scott King Rd. this time to enable us to make it farther south.
Colin said 'If someone could manage the multiple emails, you might get some folks to do an informal ride. I think there's interest in that.'
I only know how to do multiple emails if I am a group organizer.
If people are interested in riding please post or email.
    Thanks.

OK, There are several who have expressed interest already. I suggest 6:30 on Scott King. I will park on the wide shoulder by the trail, (not in Herndon Park) 6:30.

A fun ride, even if slightly shortened by the lightening. Colin, hope you're back in the saddle next week.

The heat was totally bearable with the tree canopy overhead. Or maybe it was the animated conversation and fun of riding with this great group. I'm addicted :-)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
