This event is for participants of the Fall Foliage trip, Elkmont site.
Join us for an adventure-filled day as we explore the Northwestern portion of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Participants have the option of hiking 5, 9.4, or 12.4 miles throughout the day.
Together, we will depart the Elkmont Campground early, in an attempt to reach the Cades Cove area for wildlife viewing prior to our hike. The driving time will be approximately one hour, 15 minutes. We will then depart on a 5-mile (2.5 miles each way) hike to Abrams Falls. This hike is relatively flat, but hiking boots and raingear will be required. We will enjoy a break and snacks/lunch at the falls before returning to the cars.
Cades Cove Visitor Center is nearby, and will likely be a pit stop before getting back on the road. Participants will have the option to "hike on" with a stroll on the 4.4-mile (2.2 miles each way) Crooked Arm Ridge Trail, which affords views of the Cades Cove area and the foliage.
Once finished, we will head back toward the Elmont Campground. There will be two more stops. One will be at "The Sinks" where participants can view a roadside waterfalls and continue on to Upper Meigs Falls via a 3-mile hike (RT, 752' elevation gain). There will then be one more roadside waterfall, Mannis Branch Falls, that we will stop at en route to the campground.
*Please do not sign up for this hike unless you are a "yes" RSVP for the Elkmont Site or you will be removed.*
