(Local) After work hike: Lake Johnson Park - East Loop Paved Trail

  • Apr 16, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join Triangle Hiking and Outdoors for an evening walk at Lake Johnson in Raleigh on Avent Ferry Road. Lake Johnson Park is composed of a 150+ acre lake and 300+ acres of land surrounding the lake.

We will be hiking the East Loop of the Lake Johnson trails. East Loop is ~2.82 miles. This hike will be on the paved section and does include a section with some hills. The pace will be moderate and should take an hour depending on the group. Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome.

Please dress appropriately for the weather although it's looking to be a gorgeous day  =)

NOTE: DUE TO PARKING ISSUES AT LAKE JOHNSTON PARK, WE WILL MEET AT ATHENS HIGH SCHOOL/LIBRARY PARKING LOT. This will add ~ .8 mile to the hike.

Directions to meeting location:
Take exit #295 (Gorman St.) off of interstate 40 and the 440 beltline. From Gorman St., head north (toward NC State). At the intersection of Gorman St. and Avent Ferry Rd, take a left onto Avent Ferry Rd. Go approximately 1/2 mile, straight through the stoplight at Athens Drive, and turn right into second entrance to parking lot of Athens High School and library.

Would like to join you; not sure if I can keep up. Are slower hikers encouraged or no?

Have you heard of the RDU Baton Project. It's an Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, etc... Photo project, where different local people take their turn with the "Baton" and post photos from their day around the Triangle Area. Anyway, I am the Baton holder for the day, and I plan on sharing a few photos from this hike. Perhaps a group photo with the lake in the background would be nice.

I'm sorry, all, I got a call and I have some flying to do this evening. I'll catch the next one.

I'm going to attempt to see 'Drunken Master' (the 1978 Jackie Chan movie) at the colony at 730. Think that'll be possible?

My plan was to get our hike done in an hour. You are always welcome to cut out early if you need to and make arrangements to ensure that you get to your next planned activity.

OK so the hike continues on a traverse in TRC North Raleigh. :)

I will try to walk the other part first and will meet you at the boat house, will that work?

    April 15, 2014

    • Nancy

We should be at the boat house by 6:10p.m. If you think you missed us, we always start with the hills first. I'll PM you my cell number just in case. =)

I LOVE this path and it is great for dogs- hate that I have a conflict.

We're going to try to get this on the calendar as a regular thing so look for the next one. =)
