Hiking/Backpacking Conditioning: Stadium Stairs at Duke

Let's meet on Tuesday night this week and we'll continue our training!  Are you trying to get into shape for that big backpacking trip?  Or do you simply want to get fit for all of summer's wonderful opportunities?  Whatever the reason, come on out and let's push ourselves...  we'll get the heart pumping, lungs breathing, and work up a sweat!

This is an ALL-SKILLS level event.  Everyone will go at their own pace.  You can walk the stairs as slowly or quickly as you wish.  Run them if you are able.  If you want, you can bring along a loaded backpack for a more intense training.  Finally, if you'd prefer, you can walk or run the track around the football field where you'll have a minimal elevation change.  Everyone will be working at their own level for their own personal gain.  Although we'll all be at the stadium together, I expect we'll be training solo.  For this reason, I'd recommend bringing an ipod/etc for your own entertainment.  

Parking for this event will be on Frank Bassett Drive in the Green Zone.  Drive Frank Bassett Drive to the very end near Wallace Wade Stadium/Sports Medicine Building.  Please note, there is another field with stadium seating right near Wallace Wade Stadium.  Be sure to go to the correct stadium (see photos above.)  After 5PM, parking is open to the public.  After parking, walk to the gate nearby (at the Sports Medicine building) and we'll be at the top of the stairs above the stadium.

Running late due to traffic or dealing with the boss?  No worries!!! The stairs will be here when you arrive!

Bring water/drinks since the water fountains are not turned on.  There aren't any decent bathrooms close by, so please keep this in mind.  A further distance away are some buildings (Cameron Stadium) where better bathrooms are available.

    Hey Friends, It was great working out with you tonight! I saw some excellent work.... everyone was pushing themselves and making a lot of progress. Several of us talked after the event and were commenting that we've come a long way since our first visit to the stairs. Keep it up! My apologies to the folks who came later and I didn't have a chance to greet. I hope you'll come back so we can get to know each other better next time. Next week we'll meet on Wednesday (due to the holiday and my crazy schedule.) I hope to see you then. Keep up the good work, friends!!!!
