Let’s Hike Sections 1-3 of the Falls Lake Trail!

  • Nov 10, 2012 · 9:00 AM

We will hike from the Falls Lake Damn, off of Falls of the Neuse Rd, to Possom Track Rd. (9.3 miles total)

We will meet at 9:00am and carpool to the starting point. Due to limited parking I will email all confirmed hikers 24 hours prior to the meetup with directions to the meetup location. We will then carpool to the starting location and hike.

Hiking Info:
Distance: 9.3 miles
Pace: 3-3.5 mph with a few stops. We will maintain a fairly fast pace so fit hikers only.
Limit: 8 hikers.  The limit is strict because of parking.  If you can carpool with another hiker from another location then I will be happy to consider adding you if our carpool allows.  Just ask.

Bring:
- 1-2 liters of water
- rain gear
- a snack.

This is a THOG Level 3 hike (slight intermittent elevation gains, rocks, tree roots). Boots are recommended.

PLEASE, as a courtesy to your fellow THOGers, I ask that you change status at least 24 hours prior to the hike if your are unable to attend. This allows those on the waiting list to be notified with enough time to make plans for the hike.

The Falls Lake Trail is part of the Mountain to Sea Trail. It starts at the Falls Lake Damn and runs along the southern border of the lake until it joins the Eno River State park trail system about 60 miles away. Hiking this trail in winter is best as the hiker is afforded many views of the lake that are obscured during the summer.

The sections are detailed on this site: http://www.ncmst.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Falls-Lake-Trail-official-description-2011-Apr.pdf , and the section numbers I reference are based on this guide.

To those attending, if you did not receive an email from me, please let me know. We will meet at 9am and then carpool to the Falls Lake damn to start the hike. The weather is looking great for hiking. A little cool to start but the hike will take care of that. Bring plenty of water and lets enjoy what is left of the fall colors along the lake.

Keith, did you send an email with where we will meet? I haven't received it yet and was wondering if we are still on for tomorrow?
