Umstead - Sycamore + Company Mill (11 mi)

  • November 23, 2012 · 9:00 AM

Avoid the Black Friday crowds and join you THOG friends for a brisk hike in Umstead State Park to burn off the stuffing and pumpkin pie.

We will be hiking the Sycamore Trail + the Company Mill loop at a brisk pace for a total distance of about 11 miles.  Starting on the Sycamore Trail, we will hike to the split and go counterclockwise through the loop.  When we reach the bridge over Sycamore Creek, we'll turn and do the Company Mill loop and then finish up Sycamore Trail.  FIT HIKERS ONLY! Please be prepared to maintain a 3 mph hour pace.  We should be done in 3.5 to 4 hours so plan to be finished around lunch time.  We will meet at the last parking lot from the Glenwood Entrance near the steps leading up to the picnic shelters.  We will start promptly at 09:05, so please be on time.

No dogs or children please.

This hike is a 3 by the THOG hiking scale - slight intermittent elevation gains, rocks, tree roots.

Remember to bring good hiking boots, 1-2 liters of water, and a snack for the trail.  We will only stop briefly along the trail for water and snack break.

Fine hike, though Migo looked like he got the most out of it, or rather it got the most out of him. Thanks Justin, great choice of distance and trails. Nice to be with you all.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
