What type of THOG events are you interested in participating in? (ie hiking, backpacking, camping, cycling, paddling, skiing, snowshoeing, nature photography, geocaching, etc)?

Hiking, biking, camping, and skiing. Basically, I don't have a good mountain bike or kayak, so I'm limited to those outings that require equipment, but I'm game for pretty much anything else.

Here's your chance to show off! Where are your favorite places to explore? (you don't have to divulge all your secret places!)

I've always been a huge fan of Hanging Rock State Park, since I grew up nearby and used to go hiking solo when I was in high school. I also love the Asheville area as I spent a summer there working on restoring damaged homes.

What is your hiking level? What are your expectations from joining THOG? What do you hope to gain from THOG membership?

Some people call me a Sherpa, as I'm short with stout, strong legs (and an intense interest in Mt. Everest - I wrote my master's thesis on it). I set a deliberate pace and I keep it up for as long as I can. I'd say I can do around 5-6 mile hikes at this point and can handle some steep elevation. I'd like to work up to doing longer hikes, I've just felt a bit hampered by the flatness that is the Triangle area (although I'm sure I'm ignorant of some great hiking spots).
