West of Clayton, South of Raleigh.
Mostly a day hiking specialist, love mountains. Camp some, Backpack some, Bike a little. Would like to paddle some - coastal, flatwater.
Have climbed State High Points in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennesssee, Arizona, Washington State, New Mexico. Have climbed 18 Fourteeners in Colorado: Sneffels, Sherman, Elbert, Yale, Democrat, La Plata, Quandary, Antero, Massive, Missouri, Bierstadt, Pikes, Shavano, Tabeguache, Grays, Torreys, Belford, Huron. Eastern Mountains are no comparison to Colorado 14ers in terms of difficulty and suffering. I LOVE LEADVILLE, COLORADO! I have some more I want to attempt in the future. I have made three attempts on Mt. Rainier (guided), and have summitted once. Have also summitted Mt. Adams, St. Helens, and Sourdough Mtn, a nice 5,000' climb up a 6,000'+ peak (ran into a mother bear and cubs on that climb).
How Long Hiking? 30 yrs. Pace? Fast. I learned from the Germans......I like to summit Mt. Mitchell via Black Mountain Campground in 2 hours. Walk fast, keep your eyes peeled!
Hey, I'm dan. I started hiking in 1980 in Germany doing volksmarches. Have been hiking ever since. I specialize at day hikes (love strenuous hikes!), especially mountain hikes/mountaineering. I've been known to backpack as well - 6 to 15 miles
