Prince William Forest Park Hike

Prince William Forest Park, established in 1936, is the largest protected natural area in the Washington DC Metro area, with 15,000 acres. This easy 7-mile hike, looping through the Park with an elevation gain of 620 ft. Starting from the Park Visitor Center, we will first follow the High Meadows Trail from the parking area until we join the South Valley Trail and ultimately the Turkey Run Ridge Trail. Along the way we will cross Scenic Drive, see a small cemetery and admire the scenic South Fork of Quantico Creek. We will meet at the Huntington Metro Kiss and Ride LOWER LEVEL Huntington Ave. exit at 9:30 a.m. and motor to the Park, arriving around 10. Bring beverages, lunch, bug spray, the $2 trip fee and approximately $6 for carpooling. For those meeting us at the Park Visitor Center, there is a $5 per car entrance fee to the Park. We will return to Huntington Metro around 3:30 p.m.

    Hi Devon -
Sorry about the no show today - would have called but didn't have a cell number for you. I tried but got tired of sitting in traffic on I-95 and bailed out at Occoquan. See you next time.

95 south is a parking lot for miles. Well, not quite, I do sometimes get up to 10mph! I'm going to be late to arrive. If I miss you all, maybe next time.

Good Morning everyone we are still on but it does look like a light chance of showers today so bring your rain gear! See you all at the Metro or the Park Visitor Center if you are meeting us there.

Devon, I'm on the Metro. Will we have enough cars?

I have a car and can fit 3-4 so I am not worried we had some last minute drop outs so it is hard to gauge. We will figure it out when we get there Marc. Unfortunately when people have to drop out at the last minute it changes things.

    Good Morning everyone,

The hike is still on tomorrow rain or shine so if you are not interested in attending please un-RSVP so that I can have an accurate count. Please look at the scheduled time for us to meet as we will be leaving promptly. Also bring $1 bills as I will not have any change. Bring your lunch (we will sit by the stream and eat) and your favorite flea and tick repellant.

Track Maintenance People so please take note!

Devon, my good friend John Hayden from Berkeley is in town and wants to join your outing. If he can get his car fixed today, he should be able to drive.

Anyone using Metro this weekend to get to Huntington or wherever should be aware that trains on the Red, Yellow and Blue lines will only be running every 30 minutes or so, at least in the morning, so allow plenty of extra time.
