Prince William Forest Park, established in 1936, is the largest protected natural area in the Washington DC Metro area, with 15,000 acres. This easy 7-mile hike, looping through the Park with an elevation gain of 620 ft. Starting from the Park Visitor Center, we will first follow the High Meadows Trail from the parking area until we join the South Valley Trail and ultimately the Turkey Run Ridge Trail. Along the way we will cross Scenic Drive, see a small cemetery and admire the scenic South Fork of Quantico Creek. We will meet at the Huntington Metro Kiss and Ride LOWER LEVEL Huntington Ave. exit at 9:30 a.m. and motor to the Park, arriving around 10. Bring beverages, lunch, bug spray, the $2 trip fee and approximately $6 for carpooling. For those meeting us at the Park Visitor Center, there is a $5 per car entrance fee to the Park. We will return to Huntington Metro around 3:30 p.m.
