This is a classic conditioning hike. Every step toward the summit is uphill and sections of the hike are steep and intense. There are three routes to the summit, which vary in steepness. We will ascend one of the steeper routes and descend one that is less so after having a break on the summit. Dog Mountain is famous for its wildflowers near the summit. Please bring a day pack with extra warm clothes, rain gear, water, lunch, and snacks.
Hike: 6.8 miles, 2820 feet total elevation. Drive: 100 mi. Northwest Forest Parking Pass is required; bring if you have one or $5 cash to purchase at the trailhead.
