'Saluting the Black President' is a special event to honour Nigerian icon and Afrobeat originator Fela Kuti and to celebrate the re-packaging and re-release of his entire catalogue on Knitting Factory Records.
It will feature Ginger Baker (famed drummer and Fela collaborator), Tony Allen (previously Fela's drummer), Keziah Jones, Shingai Shoniwa (of the Noisettes), Terri Walker, TY, Blak Twang, Afrikan Boy, BREIS, KOF, Bunmi Thomas and special guests.
The musicians, singers and rappers will offer their interpretations of Fela songs and will collectively contribute to a magical evening, aided and abetted by the musical backdrop provided by the inimitable Dele Sosimi (previously Fela's keyboardist) and his Afrobeat Orchestra.
Plus Koichi Sakai (Afrobeat Vibration) on the decks and an after party with DJs Rita Ray & Max Reinhardt bringing The Shrine vibe to central London.

Now, we have a young generation of artists not scared to make some fresh new music that has made them superstars with an even bigger fanbase following the likes of Wizkid, 2face, D'banj, P-Square, V.I.P, R2bees, Dj Cleo, HHP, Nameless, Chameleone, K'naan, Cabo Snoop, K'millian, Gal Level, Winky D, Nneka & Kaysha just to name but a few who are household names in and out of Africa with music being played worldwide as well as selling out concerts and fuelling the clubbing scene week in week out.
This group is open to all who appreciate the funky, hyped and energetic sound coming out of Africa right now.
