FREE EVENT: Joyce Moholoagae + Namvula at Film Africa 2012

  • Nov 7, 2012 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

As part of Film Africa Live, these two singers who met during a recent collaboration with legendary trumpeter Hugh Masekela, each bring their distinctive sounds to a night filled with the joyous and emotive soul of southern Africa.

An engaging and dynamic performer, South African singer Joyce Moholoagae has a mesmerising voice that will make you stop and listen. She has performed with legends including Darius Brubeck and Paco Peña, and draws her inspiration from the wealth of her country's music – female singers such as Miriam Makeba, Letta Mbulu and Sibongile Khumalo - as well as all the songs of liberation she heard and sang during the struggle against apartheid. With Joyce, experience the richness of South Africa through song.

Enter into a world of southern African-inspired melodies and rhythms that lilt between Zambia and Mozambique, at times touching the shores of Brazil. Fused with jazzy undertones, rich vocals are accompanied by fiery percussion, intricate guitar-playing, and fluid grooving bass lines, as Namvula’s music takes you on an intimate and uplifting journey, in an exploration of love, life and belonging.

“Beautiful music….Namvula is a great new star poised and ready for orbit.” WOM@TT
