Afrocuban Drum Lessons w/ Michael Spencer

Join Afrocuba Colorado for it's newest educational series - Afrocuban Drum lessons! The drum is the most important instrument in Afrocuban music, and the most cherished form of entertainment for the Orishas and related deities.

This class will be good for beginners and more advanced drummers, exploring Conga Drums, Boxes, Shakers, Clave, Sticks, Bells, and more.

We will explore many rhythms, including but not limited to Guanguanco, Palo, and Bata.

Michael has fifteen years experience playing, teaching, and performing Afro-Cuban percussion including:

Congas, timbales, bongo, bata, and drum set.

Michael holds a Bachelor's Degree from Berklee College of Music in Professional Music. Emphasis was: Performance and Arrangement of Cuban and Brazilian musical styles.

Michael has taught ages 4-60 the rhythms of Cuba.

    This was a lot of fun. We spent the majority of the time working on some palo rythms, and each got to take a turn on the various parts, rotating from conga drum to shaker to cajon and the bell.

    Mike is charging $50 for the lesson, so it will depend on how many people show up. Maybe $10 each.

      Hi Sasha, you do not need a drum. We will have a few congas, cajon, bongos, clave, shakers, and related instruments.
