Matthews/Winters After Work Hike & Dinner

  • May 16, 2013 · 6:15 PM

We'll hike Matthews Winters Park, a beautiful area between Dinosaur Ridge (hogback) and Mt. Morrison. The hike is about 4.5 miles with 640' of elevation gain. After the hike, those interested will have dinner at Sherpa House in Golden.

Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome description. In particular, be sure to bring rain gear. Dogs are welcome on this hike (but not at the restaurant afterward)—they must be on a leash and you must pick up after them. Afternoon thunderstorms are common this time of year, but they usually clear up by hike time. If you join this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver .

Directions : We’ll meet at the Matthews/Winters parking lot at the southwest corner of I70 and CO 26 (across the street from the Stegosaurus Lot). Click here for a map with directions. Hwy 26 is the first exit from I70 (“Morrison” exit) west of C470.

Notes:

 1. Take the Morrison exit from I70, not the Morrison Rd exit from C470;

2. As of a couple years ago, you can no longer drive your car over the Hogback on Alameda, so if your GPS says to go that way, find a different route.

    Nice hike - sorry my dog didn't make it the whole way and we turned back halfway. Hope you all enjoyed the rest of the evening!

    This park is gorgeous this time of year! Grass was green, some wildflowers were blooming, and the scenery was fantastic. Beautiful weather, nice group. Great dinner at Sherpa House afterward, too.
