FAST HIKERS ONLY! (EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO GO GOES ON THE WAIT LIST--See NOTE below.) We'll hike up scenic Deer Creek Canyon to Bill Couch Mountain where we'll have wonderful views of both the mountains to the west and of Denver. This hike is 6.25 miles with about 1485' of elevation gain. Since this hike is longer than most of my hikes, we will hike at a fast pace, so do not come on this hike if you are not a reasonably fast hiker.
After the hike, those interested will go to Carlos Miguels Mexican Restaurant on Kipling north of C470, about a 10 minute drive from the trailhead.
NOTE: To give more people a chance to get on this hike, everyone interested will register for the wait list, and then after a few days I will randomly select people from the wait list to go on the hike (subject to some conditions—see Policy on Registering for Hikes). Those selected from the wait list will receive an email from Meetup notifying them. Your order on the wait list will not matter, so you have a few days to register (approx. two or three days) before I fill the roster, and you will not need to rush to register for this event. I may still advance people from the wait list later if enough people cancel. Please read this event listing in full before registering.
Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome description. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, but they usually clear up by hike time--bring rain gear just in case. Also bring a headlamp as we will be hiking back after sunset. Dogs are welcome on this hike, but they must be on a leash and you must pick up after them. If you join this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver.
Directions: Click here for a map with directions. The easiest way to get there is, from C470, exit Wadsworth south, and immediately turn right/west onto Deer Creek Canyon Road. After 2 miles, you'll reach a Y in the road--veer left to stay on Deer Creek Canyon Road. After another mile you'll pass South Valley Park on the right, and about a mile after that you'll see a sign for Deer Creek Canyon Park. Turn left/south onto Grizzly Drive. You'll go up a winding road for about a quarter mile, and you'll see the sign and parking lot for Deer Creek Canyon Park on the right.
