Mt. Falcon After Work Hike & Dinner

  • Sep 3, 2013 · 6:00 PM

EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO GO GOES ON THE WAIT LIST--See NOTE below. We'll hike Mt. Falcon, just outside of Morrison. Mt. Falcon has great views of the red rocks, the hogback, and the city. The hike is about 3.5 miles round-trip with 810' of elevation gain.

After the hike, those interested will try a new restaurant for this group, Namaste Restaurant (Indian--click on link for menu/prices).

NOTE: To give more people a chance to get on this hike, everyone interested will RSVP for the wait list, and then after a few days I will randomly select people from the wait list to go on the hike (subject to some conditions—see Policy on Registering for Hikes). Those selected from the wait list will receive an email from Meetup notifying them. Your order on the wait list will not matter, so you have a few days to register (approx. two or three days) before I fill the roster, and you will not need to rush to register for this event. I may still advance people from the wait list later if enough people cancel. Please read this event listing in full before registering.

Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome! Description. Be sure to bring a headlamp, as the sun will set during the hike at 7:28pm. Dogs are welcome on the hike, but you must pick up after your dogs and they must be on a leash. If you join this event, you are agreeing to this waiver.

Directions: Click here for a map with directions. We'll meet at the Mt. Falcon east trailhead. (Note: Another trailhead is on the west side off of Mt. Falcon Road--don't go there by mistake.) From C470, exit Morrison Rd west, drive past downtown Morrison, turn left at the Y stoplight onto Hwy 8. Follow the signs to Mt. Falcon Park: turn right on Forest Ave., then right on Vine St. You can also get there by taking the Morrison Exit (Hwy 8, the first exit west of C470) off of Hwy 285.

Please note: The police in Morrison are notorious for giving lots of traffic tickets. Be sure to obey all traffic laws, including the speed limits (25 mph in Morrison, 35 mph just outside of Morrison) and make sure that you have your updated proof of insurance and registration with you.

Alas, the weather didn't improve as expected and I canceled the hike due to lightning in the area, but the double rainbow was fantastic! Dinner at Namaste was fun and delicious.

The rainbows and lightening were awesome at the trail-head! Dinner was a lot of FUN! I think I behaved myself pretty well. Maybe? What? ;-)

The weather is improving. Blue sky almost here...

There's a small thunderstorm moving over the area at the moment (it's actually only partly-cloudy), and it looks clear to the west. The forecast is for an 18% chance of rain this afternoon/evening, so I'm assuming this storm will pass in the next hour. I'm meeting at the trailhead at 6pm as originally planned.
