O'Fallon Park Summer Solstice After Work Hike + Dinner at Black Hat

EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO GO PUTS THEMSELVES ON THE WAIT LIST--SEE Note below. Let's celebrate the longest day of the year (which is the Saturday before this event) in style! We'll hike in one of my favorite parks, O'Fallon Park, and then go to the Black Hat Cattle Co in Kittredge for dinner afterward. O'Fallon Park is a gem about 7 miles west of downtown Morrison off of C74, and the hike takes us through a forested area--sometimes you'll see deer or other wildlife on this hike. The hike will be about 4 miles with 920' of elevation gain, and we'll hike up to a summit with beautiful views of the mountains to the west.

The Black Hat Cattle Co. (click on link for menu with prices) is more upscale than most restaurants we go to after our hikes, and specializes in steaks and seafood. Due to limitations with this specific event only, DO NOT RSVP UNLESS YOU PLAN TO ATTEND BOTH THE HIKE AND DINNER.

NOTE: As per the Policy on Registering for Hikes, EVERYONE who wants to go puts themselves ON THE WAIT LIST, and then a few days later I select people from the wait list to go onto the hike. Your order on the wait list will not matter. Those selected from the wait list will receive an email notifying them. You can also check this website to see if you are on the "going" list.

You may wish to bring a spare pair of shoes to change into for the restaurant after the hike, esp. if the trails are muddy. Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome! description. In particular, be sure to bring rain gear, and bear in mind that it will be cooler where we are hiking than in Denver (check the weather forecast for Kittredge, CO). Afternoon thunderstorms are common, but they usually clear up by hike time. Dogs are welcome on the hike (but not at the restaurant)—you must pick up after your dogs and they must be on a leash. If you join this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver.

Directions: For this hike, we will meet at 5:30pm in Morrison and carpool to the trailhead. We are meeting at the parking lot across from the Conoco gas station at the northwest corner of C470 and Morrison Road. Click here for a map with directions.

Beautiful evening at this scenic park. The wildflowers, including esp. the columbines, were wonderful. Dinner at the Black Hat was first class as always. Nice group tonight!

Thanks for persuading the weather forecasters to adjust the clouds and keep the skies clear during our hike. Fun dinner talks and great food too.
