After Work Trail Work & Dinner--Green Mountain/Lakewood

This group has done nearly 90 after work hikes since it started almost two years ago, so we should be happy to have the opportunity to help maintain the trails that we use and appreciate so much.  This group hikes on Green Mountain (a City of Lakewood park) more than any other single location, mostly because we can hike there during the winter.  After Work Hiking Plus! has adopted a segment of trail that starts south of the antenna tower, and we've agreed to do maintenance work on that trail segment about once a year.

We're starting our trail maintenance at 5:30pm, but you can show up anytime between 5:30-6:30pm. Someone from the parks department will be there waiting if you show up after the main group leaves.

Expect to work until about 8pm.   Afterward, those interested will go to nearby Frontroom Pizza for dinner/drinks (each person pays for their own).

Rain Date: If we cannot do the trail work on Wednesday August 3, we'll try again the next evening Thursday August 4.

Please note, that as discussed in Policy on Advancing People from the Wait List and Other Matters , your odds of being advanced from the wait list on a hike are significantly improved if you participate in this group's trail work days.

Please Bring:

·          Your own water.

·          Sunscreen and maybe a hat.

·          Sturdy shoes—no sandals or flip-flops—preferably hiking boots.

·          Clothes for getting dirty in, and be sure to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for the temperature.

·          Work gloves.

·          Waiver for City of Lakewood ( click here —they'll be some available there if you forget).

If you join this event, you are agreeing to this waiver (you don't need to bring this waiver—you'll sign it on a sign-in sheet when you arrive) .

Directions : We're meeting at the Florida Lot of Green Mountain/William Frederick Hayden Park, on the west side of W. Alameda Pkwy (across from W. Florida Dr.), about 1/4 mile north of the Alameda/Jewell intersection in Lakewood (do not go to the Utah Lot which is a little south of the Florida Lot). Click here for a Google map with directions.

I hike Green Mountain alot, so this was a great opportunity to give back and help maintain the trails I use so much. The people were wonderful, too. Thanks, Ed, for yet another great trailwork experience!

When I look out west, it looks like it might clear up, so we'll give it a try. Afternoon weather can change so quickly. We'll make a determination at the trailhead, but I'm still optimistic.

It's cloudy, but not as bad as some other afternoons. We may get a little rain in the next hour, but I'm optimistic it will clear up by meeting time, so let's go ahead and meet at the Florida Lot.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
