Trail Work Day--Green Mountain/Lakewood

This group has done nearly 140 after work hikes since it started over 2-1/2 years ago, so we should be happy to have the opportunity to help maintain the trails that we use and appreciate so much. This group hikes on Green Mountain (a City of Lakewood park) more than any other single location, mostly because we can hike there during the winter (Jeffco Open Space Parks close one hour after sunset, which rules out after work hikes there during the winter). Therefore, I've scheduled a Trail Work Day to help build or maintain trails on Green Mountain. We meet at 7:45am and expect to finish before 3pm (it is OK if you need to leave after lunch).

Lunch will be provided. Lunch will include chili made by Jacki Wicks (we've had this before on trail work days—it's extremely popular), vegetarian dishes, and other goodies. If you would like to volunteer to bring a dish, please email me. You will be charged $3 (for lunch) when you register—no refund if you cancel.

Please Bring:

· Your own water.

· Sunscreen and maybe a hat.

· Sturdy shoes—no sandals or flip-flops—preferably hiking boots.

· Clothes for getting dirty in, and be sure to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for the temperature.

· Work gloves are suggested.

· Waiver for City of Lakewood (click here—they'll be some available there if you forget).

This group has done several trail work days, and everyone that participated had a blast. I keep track of who volunteers to help me with the hikes, so if you participate in this event, it will improve your chances of being advanced from the Wait List for future hikes!

If you join this event, you are agreeing to this waiver.

Directions: We're meeting at the Florida Lot of Green Mountain/William Frederick Hayden Park, on the west side of W. Alameda Pkwy (across from W. Florida Dr.), about 1/4 mile north of the Alameda/Jewell intersection in Lakewood (do not go to the Utah Lot which is a little south of the Florida Lot). Click here for a Google map with directions.

I think we accomplished a lot despite the intense heat. Met some new friends and learned Hiw to use an "Irish" tool.

It's amazing what we accomplished in such a short time. Thanks, everyone! Thanks also to the great chefs for an awesome lunch!! Special thanks to Ed for coordinating it all. It takes alot of time and effort to put these together, and Ed does such a phenomenal job. Thanks for everything, Ed.

It was amazing to start where there was no trail, put 15 hard working folks with pick-adz, McClouds, and shovels on it and 2 hours later, ou la!, a new trail is created! The public is using it by before noon! Thanks Ed for organizing it. Then the lunch, prepared by volunteers, was great too!

Another satisfying trail work day...nice to see familiar faces and always enjoyable to meet some new ones! It feels pretty incredible to set foot on a brand new trail and to think about the many others who will enjoy it in the future. Thanks to those who provided the yummy lunch.
