This group has done about 140 after work hikes since it started over 2-1/2 years ago, so we should be happy to have the opportunity to help maintain the trails that we use and appreciate so much. This group hikes on Green Mountain (a City of Lakewood park) more than any other single location, mostly because we can hike there during the winter (Jeffco Open Space Parks close one hour after sunset, which rules out after work hikes there during the winter). Therefore, I've scheduled an Trail Work evening to help build or maintain trails on Green Mountain.
We'll meet at the Florida Lot (directions below) at 5:45pm. Expect to work until about 8:15pm. We'll finish the work on the bypass trail we started during the Trail Work Day—Green Mountain on June 9.
Afterward, those interested will go to nearby Frontroom Pizza for dinner/drinks (each person pays for their own).
· Your own water.
· Sunscreen and maybe a hat.
· Sturdy shoes—no sandals or flip-flops—preferably hiking boots.
· Clothes for getting dirty in, and be sure to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for the temperature.
· Work gloves are suggested.
This group has done several trail work days, and everyone that participated had a blast. I keep track of who volunteers to help me with the hikes, so if you participate in this event, it will improve your chances of being advanced from the Wait List for future hikes!
If you join this event, you are agreeing to this waiver. You will also be asked to sign the City of Lakewood waiver.
Directions: We're meeting at the Florida Lot of Green Mountain/William Frederick Hayden Park, on the west side of W. Alameda Pkwy (across from W. Florida Dr.), about 1/4 mile north of the Alameda/Jewell intersection in Lakewood (do not go to the Utah Lot which is a little south of the Florida Lot). Click here for a Google map with directions.
