Let's celebrate Christmas day and work off come calories by hiking at this scenic Jeffco Open Space Park a couple miles north of Golden. We'll watch the sunset at 4:42pm during the hike. This hike is 4.5 miles with 965’ of elevation gain. The trail conditions will be uncertain, so you may need traction devices such as Micro Spikes (see below). After the hike, those interested will have dinner at the Thai Monkey Club in Golden.
NO SLOW HIKERS!If you are a really slow hiker, please do not come on this hike. Hiking in these cold temperatures is OK as long as you are moving, but if we have to wait a long time to regroup for slow hikers, that gets really cold. You are welcome to join us for dinner afterward if you want (email me to let me know).
Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome description. The weather is mercurial this time of year, so on the day of the hike if the weather is questionable be sure to check the website or call or email the leader (cell# will be sent to those who've RSVP'd) to confirm the hike is on. You may need traction devices such as Micro Spikes. Bring a headlamp or flashlight. Dogs are welcome on this hike, but they must be on a leash and you must pick up after them. If you join this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver.
Directions: We’re meeting at the east trailhead of White Ranch Park—please follow these directions carefully! Take 6th Avenue up through Golden, and continue straight/north onto CO93. When you reach Golden Gate Canyon Road, it says to turn left for White Ranch Park and Golden Gate Canyon Park—DO NOT TURN LEFT AT GOLDEN GATE CANYON ROAD--that would take you to the west trailheads. Instead, continue straight/north on CO93. Once you leave Golden, travel north for another 1.5 miles. Once you start seeing houses again on the right, look for a sign at 56th Ave. that says “White Ranch Open Space 1 Mile” pointing to the left. Turn left, and after about a mile a yellow sign indicates the road turns left—turn right to enter the parking lot. Click here for a map with directions. Look for me and my gray Prius.
