For all you people out there that don't want to hike at night during the winter because it's too cold, check this story out: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/brr-frigid-temps-lead-weight-loss/story?id=12402127
It says you can burn up to 50% more calories by exposing yourself to below-freezing temps. So you can eat more at dinner /dessert after the hike if it was cold outside!
