Hello After Work Hikers!
Too bad it was so windy and chilly yesterday--I had a really low (but fun) turnout for the windy Apex Trail hike yesterday--seven people showed. Parts of the hike were in the wind, but during most of the hike we were sheltered from it. The Sherpa House Restaurant is extremely friendly and we all enjoyed it a lot. I will have to schedule that hike again and hopefully we'll have great weather next time.
Incidentally, after any event, members can upload photos to the site, so be sure to click on events after you've been to them to check out the photos. We have some great photos from last night's hike-click here to see them
I've scheduled our first after work hike in May--click on the title to RSVP. Dakota Ridge After Work Hike & Dinner
Tuesday, May 4, 6:30pm
This hike has great views of (and a little noise from) I70 to the north and C470 to the east. That may not inspire you, but this hike also has quite a bit of charm. We'll hike up and along the famous "Dakota Hogback" ridge (sometimes called Dinosaur Ridge) and see, to the west, views of the valley between the hogback and the front range mountains, to the east Green Mountain, and from various directions views of the city. We'll hike 3-4 miles with up to 1000' of elevation gain, and we'll see the sunset (7:58pm) during the hike. Afterwards, those interested will go to dinner at El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant
south of Jeffco's "Taj Mahal" in Golden.
Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome description. In particular, be sure to bring rain gear, and dress appropriately remembering that it gets cooler after sunset. Dogs are welcome on the hike, but you must pick up after your dogs and they must be on a leash. It sometimes is muddy on the trails, so you may wish to bring a spare pare of shoes to change into if you plan to join us at the restaurant after the hike. If you sign up for this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver
We will meet at the Stegosaurus Lot at the southeast corner of I70/Hwy 26 on the west side of the hogback in Morrison. Click here for a map with directions.
Note: Another trailhead for this hike is off of Rooney Road on the east side of the hogback--we are not meeting there.
