Next After Work Hikes

Hello After Work Hikers,

Because of a significant chance of rain this Thursday, I rescheduled the O'Fallon Park After Work Hike & Dinner to the following Thursday, April 29. Time and other details are the same. As the original hike was canceled and a new one posted, anyone registered for the original hike that wants to go on the rescheduled hike has to re-register.

The forecast for the Mt. Sanitas hike in Boulder this Friday is not looking good, either. I will wait until Thursday to decide, but if the forecast holds, I will reschedule that hike as well. Stay tuned.

I've also scheduled another hike at Apex Trail. We did this hike recently, but it was so windy and chilly that day that only a handful of (dedicated) hikers showed up. I didn't realize it until someone pointed it out today, but an RSVP deadline was incorrectly set in the hike listing and no one could register after April 19--this has been fixed and now anyone can RSVP.

Click on the event titles to register.

O'Fallon Park After Work Hike & Dinner
Thursday, April 29, 6:00pm
O'Fallon Park is a gem about 7 miles west of downtown Morrison off of C74. This hike actually takes us through a forested area, and sometimes you'll see deer or other wildlife on this hike. The hike will be about 4 miles with 920' of elevation gain, and about 3/4 the way through the hike we hike up to a summit with wonderful views of the mountains to the west, and watch the sunset from this vista. After the hike, those interested will go to the Bear Creek Tavern in Kittredge about 1/4 mile away.

Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome! description. In particular, be sure to bring rain gear, and dress appropriately remembering that it gets cooler after sunset. Dogs are welcome on the hike, but you must pick up after your dogs and they must be on a leash. If you join this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver.

For this hike, we will meet in Morrison and carpool to the trailhead. We will make appropriate carpooling arrangement for those staying for dinner and those wishing to return immediately after the hike. We are meeting at the parking lot across from the Conoco gas station at the northwest corner of C470 and Morrison Road. Click here for a map with directions.

Apex Trail After Work Hike & Dinner
Thursday, May 13, 6:15pm
We'll hike a loop from the Apex Trail which has nice views of Apex Gulch and of the city. This hike starts at Heritage Square parking lot in Golden, and is just over 4 miles and 1000' of elevation gain. We'll watch the sunset (8:06pm) during the hike. Afterwards, those interested will go to Jose O'Sheas Mexican Restaurant (click on link for menu) for dinner/drinks.

Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome description. In particular, be sure to bring rain gear, and dress appropriately remembering that it gets cooler after sunset. Dogs are welcome on the hike, but you must pick up after your dogs and they must be on a leash. If you sign up for this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver.

We'll be meeting at the far end of the lower parking lot (turn right immediately after you enter) at Heritage Square, 18301 W. Colfax Ave., in Golden, CO. Click here for a map with directions. Sometimes people get confused here. Heritage Square has a big entrance sign on Colfax (CO 40), about 1-1/2 miles north of I70, and when you turn in, immediately turn right. You should be in a large parking lot with a bus depot on the left. We will meet at the far (north) end of the lot close to a small restroom facility. If you don't see these things, you are in the wrong lot. Call me on my cell if you don't find us (I'll email the # to people who've RSVPed a day before the hike).
