Roosevelt Island Walk + LIC Walk to Studio Square

This is a Multi-Meetup Event: 5 BORO ExplorationHiking & NatureNew York Afternoon HikingA Walk to RememberFun Stuff to do in NYCFriends from Bayside and BeyondNYC Chill HikingAstoria Newbies and Alternative to the Bar Scene

MEET: We'll meet at the The Roosevelt Island Tram on the Manhattan side at 11am. We'll get to know each other for 20 minutes while we wait for latecomers. As you can see from this link: http://goo.gl/maps/Kt7Ca there are multiple subway stations near the meeting point.

DEPART: We leave at 11:20. If you arrive after that time you'll miss the boat, or the tram in this case. You'll need your Metrocard to ride the tram.

WALK #1: Once we get to Roosevelt Island we will walk around the entire island. From end-to-end the island is approximately 2 miles so double that = 4 miles. See this link for the approximate route: http://goo.gl/maps/j93tG

WALK #2: After we've walked around the island we will walk 1.4 miles across the Roosevelt Island Bridge and through Long Island City before collapsing at Studio Square. =)  Studio Square is an enormous beer garden and restaurant that can accommodate a large group such as ours. If you're not a drinker no problem. Just stay for the food and the company. See this link for the route: http://goo.gl/maps/tKE5j

LEAVE: When you've had your fill of food and/or beer you can leave. When that time comes you've got the M, R, N, and Q trains mere blocks from the restaurant. See this link: http://goo.gl/maps/85Tzg

DRIVE: If you want to drive to this event I would suggest driving to the end point of this event and find street parking around [masked]th Street, Long Island City, NY 11106 and taking the R, N, or Q train to the starting point in the city here: http://goo.gl/maps/WFCpY

NO WALK JUST SIT AND DRINK/EAT: If you don't want to join us for the tram ride and the walk you are more than welcome to meet us at Studio Square. I'd say come around 4pm

RAIN DATE: If it rains this walk is a no go, but snow is a go.

PACE: Moderate

DISTANCE: Approx 5.5 miles

If you have any questions prior to or on the day of the event, please do not hesitate to give me (Beau) a call at [masked]

Someone was asking me about the beer hall near Bryant Park, but I can't remember who. The beer hall is: Reichenbach Hall
    5 W 37th St
    New York, NY 10018 http://www.reichenbachhall.com

Nice people - great mix. I didn't give it 5 stars because the group was very large and we stopped all the time (I was hoping to just walk - but it seemed like every 5 minutes we would stop for 10-15).

I agree. I'm gonna do a Central Park 6-mi loop soon and it's gonna be fast paced so get psyched. =)

I had a wonderful time yesterday. Everyone was the epitome of awesome. Thank you for being so cool. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. I thought it would be gale force hurricane winds on the isle but the occasional light breeze here and there was refreshing. We were walking around in t-shirts half the time. Studio Square was time to let loose and boy did I ever. Me'n Mike, a.k.a. Wolverine bar-hopped elsewhere after. Kicked his ass in pool and we managed to spend some quality time with some rather ravishing hotties. ;) Let's do it again soon. I hope you'll join me. Beau

Hi Everyone, So tomorrow, Saturday, December 28th is the day of the Roosevelt Island Walk + LIC Walk to Studio Square. If you haven't already read the itinerary for tomorrow's activities, please do so by clicking this link: http://www.meetup.com/5BoroEXPLORATION/events/156413872

There are around 180 RSVP's across 9 Meetup groups, but figure around 75% no-shows and/or cancellations. In actuality, there should be around 60-70 of us.

How to find us: Once you get to this location http://goo.gl/maps/Kt... look for the group of people standing around talking to each other. Walk around the base of the tram building till you find us. We're mostly strangers so don't feel intimidated. I'll most likely walk up to you before you walk up to us and say "are you here for the thing?" and you'll say "yes" and I'll introduce myself to you and then intro you to some people. Sounds fun already right? =)

As a side note for The New York Afternoon Hiking Meetup group only: I have never ridden the tram. I have never been to Roosevelt Island nor have I ever walked over the Roosevelt Island Bridge, but I've done my research and I know it's all possible and have a route planned around the island. I have lived in LIC and walked down 36th Avenue many times and have been to Studio Square multiple times. I just wanted to let you know and I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Beau

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
