6 Mile Central Park Hike

  • April 6, 2014 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We'll be meeting by the park benches at the north west corner of 7th Ave and (59th St == Central Park South).  The hike will end at 69th and (8th Ave == Central Park West), after which we'll go out for a Chinese meal at a restaurant that agrees to do separate checks ($10 credit card minimum).

We don't want people skipping the hike and meeting us at the restaurant.  This is a hiking meetup, not a dining one.

Take the N, Q, or R trains to 57th St and walk 2 streets north, or take any train to Columbus Circle and walk an avenue east.

This event is provided at no financial cost, in exchange for your relinquishing the right to sue the organizers for anything unfortunate that may happen during this outing. By attending this event, you agree not to take legal action.  All participants will be required to sign a lengthy legalese waiver giving up any imaginable right whatsoever to sue, to the fullest extent possible by law. You can read the current draft at http://bluejacket7.com/legal/WalkingWaiver.doc . There is especially a risk that you will get separated from the group and lost, and if that happens the responsibility will be yours.

I liked it better when the starting location is in a less busy area (like the UWS), and we get a lot of the stairs and inclines out of the way nearer the beginning of the hike. However, I am not one to complain about a hike in Central Park - it's such a fantastic place to be! :D (5 stars)

And we would eat where?? Everything hinges on the restaurant. Once a restaurant has been identified and vetted, planning the rest of the route is easy. But suggestions that don't take restaurant location into account really aren't very useful.

Dude, you would go to that Chinese restaurant you planned on going to this past Sunday.

Nice walk. Could have used more bathroom breaks.

For Bill's walks most women should always arrive to the neighborhood extra-early and use a public bathroom before arriving at the meeting spot. For Central Park Bill always had a bathroom break during the hike. I use a McD's about 4 blocks away from this meeting spot, but you may prefer a fancier place.

Thanks, Bill for organizing a great walk. Made it (almost) to the very end. Nice people, nice chatting. How many miles in the end? Looking forward to the next one.

It was excellent. Bill is very knowledgeable on Central Park, and the people were great. Excellent conversation.

Felt the hike was rushed, which left me straggling behind. Not a second to enjoy the park, hike participants or the day. Dropped out at the Met and finished my day there.

Unfortunately, I will have to cancel...change in my son's schedule. Enjoy. Hope to join you for the next one!

Got separated but it was a nice day in the park regardless. Would have loved to see the waterfall(s) but hopefully some other time.

Joe and Jeff and I lost you at the Conservatory Garden...but we walked through the North Woods and down to the waterfalls...and then to 59th St. A great day no matter how it played out...Thank you!

I was very disappointed to be on the waiting list so long and did not get an opportunity to walk. I realized some people cancelled, but I still was not invited to attend.

I don't usually contribute to the comments... I just try to show up to the meetup event, but I can't help myself this time. I just read, for the first time, your description of the legalities of your group and I was truly lol. There must be a bunch of tongue in cheek in this. Truly hysterical. Maybe I am wrong....but it is a meetup. One must be a very patient person to be a meetup organizer. Perhaps a lawyer in a previous life. Maybe I am imagining things. In any case, it made me laugh and I get it.

How would I know if I got off the wait list? I know the meeting location, am I to show up?

Are you going to do the walk to the central park waterfall this year? I missed it the last time u guys went :(

    1 · March 11, 2014

    • faria

It's in an area called the loch in the north woods. All north of 100th street. Saw reviews and pictures on yelp. I thought thats where u guys went last time. Guess there r multiple waterfalls in central park

      April 5, 2014

    • Bill

Yes, water flows out of the loch north down a hill to the Harlem Meer. That's the waterfall I had in mind, but don't get your hopes up too much, it's not that spectacular.

Sorry have to cancel, as I have a family commitment.

    Have fun!

thanks bill. fully understand. makes sense. hope to sign up much earlier next time. p.s. you could impart your considerable knowledge and enthusiasm to a few friends and have them lead the same walk (staggered starting times of course) and then we'd all be overjoyed. until then...

I don't get many volunteers, especially to do afternoon hikes on weekends. I get people wanting to do morning hikes, or during working hours during the week...

So it's my birthday then and I just want to chill. But why a waiting list? The park is huge

    April 1, 2014

    • Bill

The group gets unmanageable above a certain size.

      1 · April 1, 2014

  • Barbara P.

Do you have a minimum amount of people who participate in the walks?

    March 31, 2014

    • Bill

I'm not sure what you mean. I've allowed 50 people to sign up.
